ALBANY New York City health officials and national pharmacy chain CVS said Wednesday that they’re prepared to start vaccinating children ages 12 to 15 as early as Thursday.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory committee formally recommend the Pfizer vaccine for that age group in a Wednesday meeting. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said before New York can start vaccinating those minors, the state’s vaccine advisory task force and state health commissioner will first have to review safety data and decide whether to recommend the vaccine. ....

Some San Diego County institutions are poised to start adolescent coronavirus vaccination as early as Thursday provided Monday’s initial approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration clears final federal and state hurdles.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, California’s secretary of health and human services, said during a news conference Tuesday that so long as the nation’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup sign off on the vaccine as anticipated Wednesday, the vaccination effort can expand immediately.
“As soon as Thursday, we can see appointments available and young people in the 12-to-15 age group join other Californians in getting vaccinated,” Ghaly said. ....
