Morrisey, other AGs raise legal concerns regarding D.C. statehood


CHARLESTON West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey joined 22 attorneys general in writing to President Biden and congressional leadership raising legal concerns to Washington, D.C., statehood as proposed in Congress.
“If this Congress passes and President Biden signs this Act into law, we will use every legal tool at our disposal to defend the United States Constitution and the rights of our States from this unlawful effort to provide statehood to the District of Columbia,” Morrisey joined in writing.
The attorneys general argue that the nation’s founders set forth specific guidelines for the size and authority of the District of Columbia. They contend making it a state would require amending the Constitution not simply passing a bill as the Biden administration wants to do. ....

Attorney General Morrisey Vows To Protect Second Amendment Against Biden Overreach
CHARLESTON West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey underscored his support for and his fervent defense of the Second Amendment in response to federal gun control measures proposed Thursday by President Biden.
“Defending the second amendment remains one of the most important priorities for the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office,” Attorney General Morrisey said. “I will not allow the far left to run roughshod over our citizens’ gun rights. If President Biden follows through on his proposals, we will be in court very quickly.
“Gun violence and the senseless death attributed to it should pain all Americans, however, the evil acts of a select few should never be a catalyst for stripping the lawful masses of their constitutional rights, especially their right to self-defense and to bear arms,” he added. ....

Republican West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has threatened to sue Joe Biden after unveiling a series of gun control orders on Thursday.
Morrisey said in a statement:
