Audi ramming drama in city centre was case of 'mistaken identity'

An Audi driver repeatedly rammed another car containing a small child in a case of mistaken identity, York Crown Court heard.
The victim, a food courier, was driving through the city with friends when he found himself being pursued at high speed through York by Daniel James Dexter Brown, 33.
The cars, both Audis, went through red lights, mounted the pavement and the victim drove erratically as he tried to escape during the evening of February 10 last year, said Jade Edwards, prosecuting.
“This defendant deliberately collided with (the other) vehicle several times and once to the side where the two year old child was sitting,” she said. ....

A 61-year-old Chinese-American man was attacked by a man who kicked him repeatedly in the head in New York City, police said.
The victim was collecting cans in East Harlem when he was attacked from behind, knocked to the ground and kicked in the head shortly after 8pm on Friday (Saturday morning NZT).
He was taken to Harlem Hospital in a critical but stable condition, police said.
Surveillance video released by the police appears to show the attacker stomping on the victim s head. The police department s hate crimes task force is investigating the attack, the latest in a troubling rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in New York and around the country. ....

I went in on Saturday 27th March at 7pm to be induced, nothing progressed so 24 hours later I was given gel and by 11pm Sunday 28th March I was finally starting to dialate! I went from 3cm to 9cm in no time at all, and then by 03.10am on Monday 29 March my little girl was in my arms! My labour was only 2 hours and 50 minutes. Not bad going for a first time mum!

Go with the flow: Did the River Ure give York its name?

A COUPLE of weeks ago I talked about the Vikings changing the name of York from the Anglo-Saxon Eoforwic to Jorvik, supposedly because it was easier for the invaders to pronounce.
I was contacted by the Reverend Canon Bill Ankers who recounted a discussion he’d had with his friend, Lord Nicholas Cunliffe-Lister, third earl of Swinton, who very sadly passed away last month.
Lord Swinton had an alternative theory about the name Jorvik. The Swinton estate has fishing rights for a large stretch of the River Ure around Masham and further upstream. In Wensleydale it used to be called the Yore and in fact, Wensleydale was once known as Yoredale, a name still seen in the area. Lord Swinton wondered if at one time, the river was called the Yore all the way down to York, and thus gave the city its name. ....
