Post Office makes a return to Ormsgill

A TEMPORARY postal service has been introduced in Ormsgill.

It comes after a long period of uncertainty over the future of the areas postal service when the postmaster of its Middlefield hub resigned in March last year, forcing the post office to temporarily close.

The new mobile service commenced with a small operation last Friday, with hopes for a bigger reception this week as word spreads amongst residents.

Community backs fundraiser to save birds from tragic deaths

COMMUNITY members are coming together to raise funds after a tragic incident left a family of geese dead.
The fundraiser is aiming to raise £750 to 'help raise money for increased signage and security of the wildfowl on Ormsgill Reservoir'. In less than a day, the fundraiser had reached £247 towards the cause.
It came after a number of geese were run over on Wednesday night as they crossed Wilkie Road, near Barrow AFC's ground, with several dying as a result.
The fundraiser's creator, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "It's about the fourth year this has happened, and I was unfortunate enough to witness the one about four years ago. If you see it, it is absolutely horrific. You've got babies who are either squished and the adults sat by them, or adults looking for babies. It will never leave you."
