SPRING VALLEY - Rockland County on Thursday released vaccination data, broken down by ZIP code, that shows concerning trends: Some of the regions where COVID-19 infections have been the highest show the lowest rate of vaccinations. County Executive Ed Day announced that the health department would bring vaccinations to communities to help ensure vaccines were more accessible. Day stood outside the Martin Luther King Multi-purpose Center, which is serving as a vaccination hub. Vaccine clinics are being run there by the county s health department on Thursday and Friday. A total 500 people are expected to be vaccinated at the site. Appointments are booked and no walk-in slots are available. ....
Suez Water, the county s biggest distributor, sells water to 300,000 Rockland residents, while Nyack village sells to 15,000, and Suffern uses Torne Valley water for thousands of residents. The chemicals, a product of manufacturing, can cause kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, and low birth weight, among other harmful health effects. Another chemical found in the water supply that raises concerns is perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, known as PFOS. “Hundreds of thousands of Rockland residents having potentially toxic PFOA in their drinking water demands an all-hands-on-deck approach, including the expertise of the EPA,” Schumer said. “The fact that the drinking water system exists across state lines means a federal entity like the EPA can be helpful managing cross-state issues that arise.” ....

The county exhausted its 1,000 dose supply of the vaccine in just three days. Rockland County Executive Ed Day is asking residents to stay patient and remain calm.
