LOUISVILLE — The Washington office of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has signed onto a letter asking President Joe Biden to make the Colombian government’s full implementation of 2016 peace accords a priority.
The Office of Public Witness joined more than 20 other groups in signing onto the March 1 letter, which asks Biden’s administration to “pay attention to preserving and strengthening peace in Colombia and protecting the nation’s endangered human rights defenders.”
The letter centers on peace accords dating back to the Obama-Biden administration that are at risk because of what the signatories describe as “weak implementation” in the South American country that has been embroiled in 56 years of armed conflict. ....

JEFFERSONVILLE, Indiana — When the Rev. Dr. Craig Howard describes the journey that led him to become the Foundation’s newest Ministry Relations Officer, he says that it all began with his work as an insurance agent.
Last month, Howard joined the Presbyterian Foundation as the Ministry Relations Officer serving the Central Region, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky. He lives in St. Louis.

Presbyterian Mission Agency Presbyterian University of East Africa gains charter in Kenya

JEFFERSONVILLE, Indiana — Things have changed dramatically for the Presbyterian University of East Africa in the past three years — despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enrollment is up, construction debt is settled and the university now has a charter signed in December by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We thank God,” says the Rev. Robert Waihenya Ngugi, Secretary General Designate for the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. He also teaches at the university, which is in Nairobi, Kenya. “We were able to work with our friends, with our enemies, and secure the charter. It was one protracted battle.” ....
