Mahua Moitra is doing politics over a pandemic

Mahua Moitra is doing politics over a pandemic
May 12, 2021, 12:32 PM IST
Abhishek Mishra is a BJP youth leader. He is a graduate of Mumbai University and after completing masters in political science. He is currently doing graduate diploma in International Relations from University Of London. LESS... MORE
Mahua Moitra recently wrote an article in New York Times whose title was ‘I know what it takes to defeat Narendra Modi’, sadly for her voters who elected her to Lok Sabha she is more worried defeating Narendra Modi than defeating the Pandemic. It would have been very welcome if TMC MP had written an article titled ‘I know what it takes to defeat Covid-19’ but alas such common sense in time of a global pandemic and a national crisis is too much for people in the opposition like Mahua Moitra whose sole attempt is to milk the suffering of the common man during this second wave for their electoral benefit.

Hattrick CM Mamata during the election campaign, at a rally in Jalpaiguri
IT was dusk on May 2 by the time news came that Mamata Banerjee had created history yet again. With a hat-trick of victories, and having secured more than 200 seats for the second time, her party, the All-India Trinamool Congress (TMC), had surpassed all expectations. The enduring image of this election will be of the wheelchair-bound Mamata, a wounded tigress who fought alone against the entire might of the BJP, including the prime minister. Anti-incumbency, allegations of corruption and minority appeasement, sexist tauntsMamata braved them all, and in the end her party was the only one left standing, winning 213 of the 292 seats (elections to two seats have been deferred). By bringing the relentless BJP juggernaut to a halt, her status in Bengal has been upgraded from Didi to that of a Durga. Mamata has exposed the claims of the Modi-Shah duo’s reputed invincibility as a mere boast and emerged as the great big hope of opposition forces across the country.

Sutapa Sikdar on cosmic connection with Irrfan Khan: ‘He is around, just not physically present’
Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan succumbed to cancer last year leaving his family and fans in grief. Irrfan's wife Sutapa Sikdar who is taking time to cope with his absence says her cosmic connection with the late actor has continued even after his death. “There are things where I feel suddenly as if everything is the same. He is around, he is just not physically present,” Sutapa told Times of India.
He says that she still feels his presence around her. She told TOI, “Both of us loved the rain. And both of us would joke – if it was very hot…and it would rain the next day. When I went to Jaipur, it was a very hot day – and then, that night, it rained! It felt so strange. Then, when I was travelling back on the Jaipur-Mumbai highway, Google Maps told us that there was congestion and suggested an alternate route. It was an unfamiliar road, and then I was like – Oh my God! We are going via Tonk! Tonk is the place he belonged to. I do get hints of him being around," she shared.

West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021: Polarisation can't break Bengal family, says Mamata

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed confidence that “the large family of Bengal” would stand together regardless of the BJP’s attempts at polarisation, casting the Assembly elections as a battle to preserve “Bengal’s peace, culture, civilisation, identity and existence”.
“I still think the people of Bengal are standing together. Bengal is one large family, of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes — everyone is united. The family cannot be broken, despite all the attempts at polarisation,” Mamata told the ABP Ananda news channel in an interview on Poila Baisakh evening.
“On the occasion of the Bengali New Year’s Day, I reaffirm my unflinching faith in Bengal’s people, who know this is the election to save Bengal, its honour and everything it stands for… its complex ethos. Women and the youth are playing a huge role in it this time, I believe, as are farmers, workers, teachers,” Mamata said.

PM Modi promises 'real change' in Bengal | India News

“People have made up their minds for parivartan. But parivartan is not only about change of governments. We will bring about ashol parivartan,” he said at the Dunlop Sahaganj Maidan. “Tolabaji (extortion) by TMC has reached such a high that one cannot even rent space without paying a cut. Bengal is in the grip of syndicates. People are getting poorer by the day even as the Trinamool is flourishing,” he added.
“We took up the scheme to provide piped drinking water in each village to help women. We gave Rs 1,700 crore to Bengal for this project, but the state government has utilised only Rs 609 crore so far. Only nine lakh households have been benefited out of the targeted two crore,” he said. Women have been the focus of many of TMC’s recent campaigns and the state government’s social-welfare schemes.
