CONTROVERSIAL plans to develop on a flood-prone ‘wildlife haven’ - that were initially deferred due to concerns raised by locals - are again set for approval.
The housing scheme on green space off Darton Lane, Darton, was expected to be granted outline planning permission at last month’s meeting of the planning board.
But amid fierce opposition, led by local Richard Denton and backed by Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis and Darton East Coun Steve Hunt, and questions over suitability, the plans will instead be considered at a meeting next week.
The land was indicated in council documents to yield 86 homes, but the application by the Church Commissioners for England requests outline planning for 68 reduced from an initial 73. ....

Ultra Health CEO Duke Rodriguez called the Cannabis Regulation Act passage monumental.
The Cannabis Regulation Act will take effect 90 days after the 2021 First Special Session ends, which puts the effective date at about June 30.
Keep in mind, that doesn t mean that sales will commence on that date because the Act itself that was passed is (142 pages) and it covers a wide range of things including taxation, possession limits, fines and penalties, licensing requirements, a whole host of matters about distribution of taxes imposed, Rodriguez said.
Some parts of the Cannabis Regulation Act will go into effect on the day the Act is signed into law such as New Mexico Gross Receipts taxes no longer being applied to medical cannabis purchases, Rodriguez said. ....

March is Women’s History month, a perfect time to share the story of Miss Ida McNare. An interview in the March 1, 1945, edition of the Union Register newspaper describes the work Miss McNare was doing with Yugoslav Refugees in Egypt.
McNare, whose parents, then deceased, were Chauncey M. and Mosie Dean McNare, had returned after spending 28 months in Egypt distributing American Red Cross supplies to Yugoslav refugees. For more than six months in 1944, McNare lived in the desert with thousands of Yugoslav refugees who had been evacuated from their homeland because of German occupation. ....
