Wheeling Hospital CEO says patients benefit most from WVU Medicine takeover

WHEELING, W.Va. Doug Harrison, the CEO of Wheeling Hospital calls the management takeover by West Virginia University Health System a great expansion in the ability to serve citizens of the Upper Ohio Valley.
Harrison was part of the official formalization of the agreement between West Virginia University Health System, Wheeling Hospital, and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to make the hospital a full member of the WVU network that took place Wednesday. The parties announced in September 2020 that the hospital would join the health system. ....

Moundsville Man Faces Sex-Related Charges | News, Sports, Jobs


A Moundsville man faces several felony charges, including incest, after an alleged incident in November.
In late February, a sexual assault nurse at WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital contacted the Moundsville Police Department regarding a 13-year-old girl who said she had been assaulted by James Cusick, 23 of Moundsville, in November.
The girl told police that Cusick had been contacting her over Snapchat, and had come to her apartment to get something to eat. She said Cusick had pushed her against the counter and touched her inappropriately before forcibly disrobing her, throwing her on the couch, and allegedly sexually assaulting her. ....

CHARLESTON The state of West Virginia is trying to learn why 168 COVID-19 deaths were not reported, officials said Wednesday.
Gov. Jim Justice during his pandemic briefing said 168 deaths were unreported to the state and most were in hospitals, hospice groups, long-term care facilities and two in the correctional system. The total is 7.2 percent of the 2,330 deaths attributed to the virus in West Virginia since the pandemic began.
Fifteen of those unreported deaths came locally, in facilities in either Ohio County or Marshall County. ....

The Marshall County Health Department has received word that it will be receiving 738 first dose COVID-19 vaccinations to be given from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Chevron Building at the Marshall County Fairgrounds.
Although this figure is less than this past week, health department director Tom Cook said he was pleased, adding that this will bring the figure for the two week period to 1,998 vaccinations given.
This past week’s vaccinations went very smoothly, according to Cook.
“This past week’s distribution was a teamwork effort, we couldn’t have carried this out without help from numerous individuals,” he said. ....
