Two Emory experts have been nominated to serve on the national Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board to examine government records of unpunished, racially motivated murders of Black Americans during the modern civil rights era (from the mid 1940s to the late 1960s) and make those records easier to access. Gabrielle Dudley is an instruction archivist with Emory’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, where she partners with faculty to design undergraduate and graduate courses and assignments. She also finds ways for faculty to use resources from the Rose Library in their classes, such as the extensive collection related to the civil rights era. ....
Kimberly Jacob Arriola, executive associate dean for academic affairs in the Rollins School of Public Health and Charles Howard Candler Professor, has been appointed dean of Laney Graduate School, effective Sept. 1, 2021. ....

Later, they participated in demonstrations to decry the death of George Floyd at the knee of a police officer. But it wasn’t until they moved to Atlanta to pursue an MPH last summer that their activism took off. Immediately after settling in, Alcid engaged with LGBTQIA+ activism at Rollins and this year served as president of the school’s Queer and Trans Collaborative. They also engage with Students for Social Justice and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, as well as working with the Graduate Student Government Association on expanding diversity and equity studies to the graduate school curriculum. ....

The National Science Foundation recently awarded prestigious Graduate Research Fellowships to three seniors in Emory College of Arts and Sciences, 12 recent Emory College alumni and nine PhD students in Emory’s Laney Graduate School. The nation’s oldest graduate fellowship of its kind, the NSF award comes with a three-year annual stipend of $34,000, a $12,000 stipend to fellows’ graduate institutions and access to programs for professional development and international research. The highly competitive award was offered to 2,074 students this year, out of more than 20,000 applicants. ....
