The map shows how many vaccine doses each state has been allocated and how many shots each has administered so far. The totals tell a grim story: The US fell far short of its goal to vaccinate 20 million people by the end of 2020. At its current pace, it would take the country 9 years to vaccinate the whole population.

The announcements came on the same day when the UK government warned of a new age of accountability for social media. Social-media platforms operating in the UK could be fined 10% of global turnover for not following the rules.
