The approval of the Pfizer shot for kids 12 years of age and older could be key for Governor Beshear to further lift restrictions and capacity limits that are in place. Some parents say they will definitely sign their child up to protect them, and help get us back to normal, while others say they don’t believe children need the shot. Meanwhile more mobile vaccination clinics have been announced in the area. FEMA and Wild Health will hold clinics with the Pfizer vaccine Wednesday at the Firestone Plant in Williamsburg, Friday at First Baptist Church in Somerset and Saturday at Freedom Christian Fellowship in London and Canadatown Community Fellowship in Williamsburg. The Vaccination Clinic remains open at the Laurel County Extension Office. Times at all locations are from 10am to 6pm. ....

Mobile vaccination centers coming to Williamsburg, London this week

Mobile vaccination centers will be set up in the Tri-County this week. The mobile units are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and no appointment is necessary.
The mobile units are being brought to the area by the Kentucky Department of Health and Wild Health, who is managing the units.
The units will return to the same location in three weeks to give the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
This weekâs stops in the Tri-County:
Tuesday
Firestone, 1 Firestone Boulevard, Williamsburg
Wednesday
Saturday
Canadatown Community Fellowship, 95 Log Cabin Road, Williamsburg

FEMA also has a vaccination location at the Laurel County Extension Office, 200 County Extension Road in London, that remains open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment is needed. ....

Kentucky Health Officials Say COVID-19 Cases In Those 40 And Younger Are Rising

Cases of COVID-19 among Kentuckians 40 and younger are rising. Those age groups remain the least vaccinated populations in the Commonwealth but accounted for more than 9,000 new cases throughout April. People 16 and older have been eligible to receive the vaccine since the beginning of April. Lexington-based Wild Health has focused on bringing the vaccine to all Kentuckians, including those on college campuses. However, Dr. Luke Murray said the turnout has been disappointing. Dr. Murray said some younger Kentuckians get their first shot and don’t feel like coming back for the second, or they feel like they don’t have to since everyone else is getting the shots. He says herd immunity is 60 to 70 percent of the population or more, and we’re nowhere near that. Dr. Murray said people who had COVID-19 should still get the shot because immunity only lasts so long. Here in London FEMA representatives ....

In Laurel County, less than a third of the population has gotten a COVID-19 vaccine, and starting this week, the shots are coming to the people as a federal program launches with FEMA to administer at least 42,000 shots in the next six weeks. Laurel County Judge-Executive David Westerfield said it’s welcome attention for our area. The main site will be at the Laurel County Extension Office, but FEMA will also be using mobile units to spread into surrounding counties and bring the shots directly to those wanting one.
