Anya Rader Wallack returns to VT, named UVM Health Network SVP

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Health Network today announced the appointment of Anya Rader Wallack, PhD, as Senior Vice President for Strategic Communications. 
Wallack, originally from Vermont, is a professor at the Brown University School of Public Health in Providence, RI.  She has worked in high-level health policy positions for former Vermont Governors Howard Dean and Peter Shumlin, and former Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo.

She will replace Theresa Alberghini DiPalma, who served the UVM Medical Center and UVM Health Network for nearly 20 years before stepping down on June 4. ....

Home Health & Hospice to begin phased reopening of Adult Day Program


South Burlington Location To Welcome Participants Next Month
Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Health Network – Home Health & Hospice Adult Day Program, which provides critical care and therapeutic services to the community, will reopen its South Burlington site on June 8, based on guidance from the state of Vermont.
Statewide, Adult Day Programs have been closed for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staffing and resource challenges are driving a slower-than-hoped reopening for these facilities across Vermont. Home Health & Hospice will focus its staff and resources in one location – Farrell Street in South Burlington.
The two other Adult Day Program sites operated by Home Health & Hospice in Colchester and Essex will remain closed until further notice, with the possibility of reopening them re-evaluated ongoing. This gradual approach is intended to work to ensure the long-term viability of this important program. ....

The Board of Trustees has voted to elect The Right Reverend Shannon MacVean-Brown, Dominic Eisenger, Ph.D., Dr. Michelle Cromwell, PhD, and Dr Kara Odom Walker, MD, to the 22-member body that oversees the health network.

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Medical Center and the Vaccine Testing Center at the University of Vermont s Larner College of Medicine have successfully reached and surpassed the targeted number of enrollees for an ongoing Phase 3 clinical trial of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
The goal of 250 enrolled and dosed volunteers was met in just four weeks – with more than 3,100 people registering to take part. The local vaccine trial was able to enroll nearly 65 percent of volunteers who are over the age of 65 – a critically important demographic for testing efficacy and safety and a unique, local contribution to the nation-wide study. Additionally, more than 12 percent of participants identify as black, indigenous or persons of color. ....

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Medical Center is entering its second week of COVID-19 vaccinations and is pleased to begin administering the vaccine to community-based providers. The hospital continues to vaccinate its own patient-facing staff as well as EMS personnel. The process for vaccine distribution was developed by the CDC and Vermont Department of Health and all Vermont hospitals are playing a part in assisting with its implementation.
