Australia predicted to boost military spending by $11billion a year to prepare for war with China

Australia will boost its military budget by more than $11 billion a year by 2025 to defend itself against possible war with China, analysts predict.
Defence spending was about $40.1 billion in the 2020 financial year and this is predicted to rise sharply to $51.26 billion five years later.
Tensions are still rising with China in an ongoing trade war Beijing started almost a year ago after Prime Minister Scott Morrison called for a coronavirus inquiry.
China and Australia also have fundamental disagreements on human rights, Taiwan, and the country s increasing expansionism in the Asia-Pacific.

When Scott Morrison finally faced the media over historic rape allegations concerning a senior minister, his reaction was to obfuscate.
“It’s a matter for the Australian Federal Police,” he said. “We can’t have a situation where the mere making of an allegation is grounds for governments to stand people down simply on the basis of that.”
Morrison said he’d spoken to the alleged perpetrator who’d categorically denied the allegations (alleged perpetrators tend to do that). More concerningly, he’d heard “rumours” about the incident in October last year and decided to do nothing. ....

Australia's defence force signs over storage of its military secrets to a Chinese-owned company

A Chinese-owned data storage company will house files for the Australian Defence Force, sparking fears the global superpower could easily access Australia s military secrets.
The parent company of data firm Global Switch, Aldersgate Investments, sold 49 per cent of its stake to Chinese consortium Elegant Jubilee in 2016.
At the time then-treasurer Scott Morrison said all military documents would be phased out of the storage facility in Ultimo, Sydney, by 2020.
Instead the contract, which was due to expire in October last year, was quietly renewed until September 2025 in a $53.5million deal, federal parliament revealed on Tuesday.
