Duante Wright became at least the fourth person in the U.S. to be killed by a police officer who mistakenly fired a gun instead of their Taser.
Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by Brooklyn Center Police Department officer Kimberly Potter, 48, after he was stopped for a traffic violation on Sunday.

At a press conference on Monday, Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said he believed that Potter had meant to use a Taser on Wright.
He said: It is my belief that the officer intended to deploy their Taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet. ....

An agreement between a California city and BART could spell trouble for California high-speed rail.

The city of Millbrae, Calif., announced an agreement with the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) to return several downtown parcels of land that both give the city new opportunities to develop significant mixed-use housing and commercial units and to further leverage its demands that California high-speed rail tracks be under-grounded.
“This is terrific news and an important milestone for both the city and BART. New housing and a premier development on the transit corridor is one step closer to becoming a reality,” said Mayor Ann Schneider. ....

The Trump Administration announced Dec. 17 a total of $544.3 million in federal funding will be allocated by the
U.S. Department of Transportation s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to seven transit infrastructure projects in Arizona, California, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina and Utah. Funding is provided through FTA s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Program.
This $544.3 million federal investment will help ensure that critical improvements can be made to our country s public transportation systems, said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.
With this announcement, FTA has advanced funding for 41 new CIG projects throughout the nation under this Administration, totaling approximately $10.7 billion in funding commitments. ....
