Archie Thomas is a church organist who grew up attending the Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana. He still plays here occasionally.
But on this warm spring day, the 49-year-old is visiting for another reason to get his first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I do have a pre-existing condition diabetes so I thought it would be in my best interest to get vaccinated,” he said.
When Thomas learned about the popup clinic at the southern Indiana church, he talked his mother Elizabeth into going with him to be vaccinated. She took his picture to record the big moment. ....

Vanderburgh reports 20 new cases of COVID-19, one death

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  There were 20 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by Vanderburgh County Sunday with one death. 
Warrick County had nine positive cases, Gibson four and Posey three as case numbers in the area continue an overall trend of decline. There were no deaths reported in those counties.
On the state level, there were 736 new cases reported in Indiana and 17 deaths. A total of 12,142 Hoosiers have now died from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with another 431 listed as probable COVID-related deaths.
Improving daily data placed Vanderburgh, Posey and Warrick counties in the state s yellow advisory level this week, a step forward from last week, when they were orange. Gibson County was in the blue advisory level Saturday. The advisory levels are updated weekly. ....

500,000 COVID deaths in US: Health care workers exhausted, frustrated


SAN FRANCISCO – Nearly a year into a life-altering pandemic, many Americans are fed up with wearing masks, desperate for a return to normalcy and numb to the relentless stream of grim numbers, such as the 500,000 COVID-19 deaths the USA surpassed Monday.
Health care workers don’t want to hear any of that.
They have been working endless hours amid constant death and suffering, forsaking time off and exposing themselves to the disease, leaving them exhausted and with no real indication of when the pandemic will relent.
“There’s definitely some tangible fatigue on the health care workers’ side, being sick of COVID and sick of people disregarding public health guidance, getting sick and expecting us to defer another vacation or put off something else,” said Eric Cioe-Peña, an emergency room physician running a COVID-19 field hospital in Staten Island, New York. ....

COVID-related death of Union County resident is county's 12th


HENDERSON, Ky. The COVID-related death of a Union County resident was reported Wednesday by the Green River District Health Department.
The death was the 12th in the county and the 316th in the seven-county Green River District since the pandemic began.
Henderson County recorded 15 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday as the GRDHD reported 122 new cases in the district with seven of those in Union County and three in Webster County. Daviess County had 73 new cases, along with 13 in Ohio County, eight in Hancock County and three in McLean County.
The COVID-related death of an Ohio County resident was also reported on Wednesday. ....
