Share Winthrop Maine Historical Society Board of Directors gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, to celebrate the acquisition of Key Bank on Main Street in Winthrop for the future Winthrop History and Heritage Center. For more than 10 years the society has been investigating and working to find a home for the many items that overtime have been donated to the society. In 2019, the Board of Directors began in earnest the task of actually finding a suitable home in downtown, according to a news release from Mary Richards of Winthrop.

Feb 2, 2021 AMSTERDAM In anticipation of significant snow amounts, the city will declare a snow emergency today beginning at 6 p.m. Monday night until further notice, according to a news release. The snow emergency requires that all motor vehicles be removed from (parking on) city streets by 6 p.m. Vehicles cannot park on city streets until the snow emergency is lifted. If anyone has questions or concerns, call the Amsterdam Police Department at (518) 842-1100. The following is a list of city owned parking lots: City Hall; Post Office; Guy Park Avenue Extension (Kirk Douglas parking); Golf Course; Veteran’s Field (upper field along Locust Avenue and Roosevelt Road and the road to the pool building; Morris Street Parking Lot; East Main and DeGraff (both lots); between Vrooman and Lefferts (behind Art Center); Eagle and East Main Streets; Dean and East Main Streets; 47 Reid Street; Milton Avenue between First and Second Avenues; Prospect Street (upper, near Elizabeth Street);

The statewide program is known as the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, which was started in 2016 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who announced the $100 million investment into 10 downtown communities – one municipality from each of the Regional Economic Development Councils. Jamestown won the competition in the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council during the first year of the program.
