Greater park oversight moves forward

The parks and beaches director position recently roused from the countyâs pre-COVID-19 budget and posted on the countyâs website netted six applicants within the first two weeks.
The request for a countywide director was made by Monroe County Commissioner Mike Forster, who had been lobbied by Tavernier residents concerned with overuse at Harry Harris Park.
âI know the county had posted the job last year before COVID hit and from what I understand they had 84 applicants. The time has come to concentrate on the parks within the county,â Forster said.
The director would work with the countyâs public works department and the administration staff to provide greater oversight of county parks as well as to institute park programming. ....

Permits required for flood-damaged properties located in floodplains

Widespread flooding across Kentucky in recent weeks has left many residents with damaged property that is in immediate need of cleanup and repair. Property owners are encouraged to begin cleanup, debris removal, and mold remediation as quickly as possible, however before reconstruction of residential structures can begin, permits are required from the Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) and local entities.
To help accelerate the process and decrease the cost to residents, the DOW is waiving an applicantâs public notice requirement, and is expediting reviews of applications.
Applications can be submitted to the Floodplain Management Section of the DOW, 300 Sower Boulevard Frankfort, KY 40601 or by email to DOWFloodplain@ky.gov. ....

The US Supreme Court on Thursday issued a unanimous ruling in favor of Facebook, finding that the social media giant isn t violating the 1991 Telephone Consumer Protection Act when it sends out automated text messages. The court noted that the 1991 law, which was written to curb robocalls, wasn t intended to apply to new, internet-based technologies.
The ruling bars a proposed class action lawsuit against Facebook, which a federal judge had already tossed out in 2019. The plaintiffs, led by a Montana resident named Noah Duguid who had received numerous password reset texts from Facebook despite never using the ....
