Coronavirus outbreak that halted visitation at Langley care home now over

VANCOUVER
The COVID-19 outbreak at a multi-purpose seniors care home in Langley is now over, Fraser Health said Thursday.
Just two weeks after it declared an outbreak at Chartwell Langley Gardens - an independent-living, assisted-living and long-term care facility operated by Chartwell Retirement Residences - the health authority said in a statement that there are no longer any coronavirus cases at the facility.
The outbreak was declared on April 1 after five staff members at the site tested positive for COVID-19. No patients were infected during the outbreak, according to data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
The outbreak declaration meant that residents of the facility could not have visitors, just as visits in long-term care homes were resuming in B.C. ....

B.C.’s COVID-19 case counts have surpassed several markers.
New cases rose above 1,200 and hospitalized cases surpassed the 400 mark, which is a concerning new record. Active cases also surpassed 10,000 cases.
B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided a monthly modelling update presentation today, which included data about cases in schools and at workplaces, and Vancouver Coastal Health also provided an update on cases at Whistler.
Modelling update
When it comes to geographic areas with most cases, Fraser South and Vancouver remain highest. Henry pointed out that there has been a shift from the northwest to the northeast regions of the province for more cases, which she said reflects the vaccine rollout. ....

For the first time in several months, B.C. s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix issued a B.C. update on a Saturday.
As case numbers have been on an upswing and after seeing today’s record numbers it’s understandable why they wanted to get an update out over this long weekend.
Travel issues
Once again, Henry and Dix have emphasized that no one should be traveling, unless it is essential.
Yesterday, B.C. Ferries stated that the 11 a.m. sailing from Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island, heading to Tsawwassen, was delayed. CTV News Vancouver Island reported that a passenger aboard the vessel refused to wear a mask, which violates public health orders and the B.C. Ferries policy, and also caused a disturbance. ....
