Brewers take Cardinals to extras, only to fall big | Fox Sports 1070

By Doug Russell
Chalk it up to another missed opportunity.
Tuesday night in their series opening three-game series with division rival St. Louis, the Milwaukee Brewers had the game-winning run in Billy McKinney on third base in the 10th inning and failed to score him.
In the top of the 11th, the roof caved in on the Milwaukee bullpen. When the carnage stopped, the Cardinals escaped with a 6-1 victory, highlighted by 11th inning home runs by Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O’Neill off of Brad Boxberger that accounted for all five runs.
A silver lining for Milwaukee continues to be their starting pitching. Brewers starter Freddy Peralta pitched seven innings of one-hit shutout ball, striking out 8 and walking one.

Bucks outlast Magic despite late scare | Fox Sports 1070

By Doug Russell
May 12, 2021
The Milwaukee Bucks frantic last week of the regular season already had one thud Monday night in San Antonio. The last thing they wanted was a repeat performance against Orlando on Tuesday.
In the end, Milwaukee prevailed, 114-102, improving their record to 44-25 with just three games left to play. The Bucks are still chasing the Nets for the No. 2 seed in the East. Brooklyn leads Milwaukee by one game in the conference standings.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 27 points on an evening where all five starters scored in double digits.
"I thought the guys were locked in," Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer told reports after the game. “To win a game in a back-to-back this time of year is not easy."

Bucks hang tough for win at home | Fox Sports 1070

By Doug Russell
May 6, 2021
Playing without Khris Middleton and one night after a draining win over the Nets, the Milwaukee Bucks mustered just enough defense in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 135-134 win over the Washington Wizards Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum.
Jrue Holiday picked up Middleton’s scoring slack with a team-high 29 points. In all, Milwaukee (42-24) had seven players scoring in double digits, highlighted by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 23 points on 8-15 shooting from the field and Donte DiVincenzo’s 19 points on 6-8 shooting, including 5-7 from beyond the three-point line.
Washington (30-36) was led by Bradley Beal’s 42 points. Beal (31.1 ppg) is second only to Golden State superstar Steph Curry (31.5 ppg) in scoring this season in the NBA.

Brewers come up short again | Fox Sports 1070

By Doug Russell
The Milwaukee Brewers keep writing the same script in Philadelphia hoping the ending will change.
Instead, the ending stayed true to the plotline. Get down big early, scratch and claw their way back to within one run…only to come up short in the end.
Wednesday night, Milwaukee fell for the third consecutive time overall to the Philadelphia Phillies and extended their season-long losing skid overall to four, 5-4 the final in game three of their four game series.
Philadelphia (16-15) scored all of its runs in the first inning off of losing pitcher Freddy Peralta. In fact, each of the first five batters of the game scored for Philadelphia, who were then held to just one hit the rest of the game.

Bucks sweep Nets mini-series | Fox Sports 1070

May 5, 2021
The Milwaukee Bucks have stood toe-to-toe against the NBA’s best in the last two weeks, sweeping all four games against the two teams in front of them in the Eastern Conference.
That may not mean anything in terms of standings and especially when the playoffs roll around, but the late-regular season results are encouraging.
Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 36 points and 12 rebounds in Milwaukee’s 124-118 win over Brooklyn. The Nets were without James Harden but did get 38 points from Kyrie Irving and 32 from Kevin Durant.
The win shrinks the Bucks’ deficit to three games in the Eastern Conference behind Philadelphia. Brooklyn is 1.5 games out of first place.
