PUEBLO — Sub-zero temperatures approaching are forcing the City of Pueblo to expand the Emergency Warming Shelter s hours of operation.
Pueblo s Transit Center downtown opened earlier in the week from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, providing shelter to the homeless people who need it. As temperatures this weekend drops to single-digits, the city is opening the shelter from 6:00 pm this Saturday through 6:00 am Monday, providing warmth for the entirety of Sunday.

Toronto has long had a deficiency of safe indoor public spaces for those experiencing homelessness to access during the cold winter season, and a new study demonstrates just how much this issue has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project, called Changes in informal access to selected indoor public spaces in Toronto and carried out by MAP Centre For Urban Health Solutions, looks at five different types of public indoor spaces    24-hour restaurants, warming centres, libraries/community centres, drop-ins, and Out of the Colds  and uses maps to show how many were lost during the 2020/2021 winter season. ....

BRYAN, TX — With the arctic blast affecting much of the state of Texas, protecting the homeless population is of much concern in the Brazos Valley.
Twin City Mission, Brazos Valley’s emergency shelter, is preparing to see more individuals walk through their doors as they escape the freezing temperatures.
“We anticipate these types of situations every year, and we had one a couple of weeks ago and we thought that was it and it had passed, and lo and behold we are looking at a longer stretch of more severe weather in terms of temperatures,” said Ron Crozier, Twin City Mission’s Director of Community Relations. ....

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The preparations for moving Lexington s homeless before this week s ice storm began over the weekend at the Catholic Action Center (CAC).
The biggest preparation we made was last weekend going out and getting folks off the streets and out of the camps, CAC Co-founder Ginny Ramsey explained. We ended up getting 91 people who we have in motels because we could not add them to the population of the Catholic Action Center due to COVID. We are maintaining our COVID protocols, very tightly, but we were able to get 91 folks who will be in shelter for several weeks, looking at the weather. ....
