INDIANAPOLIS The City of Indianapolis will re-open its rental assistance portal in the next few weeks, according to a spokesperson in the Mayor s Office, to help those struggling to make payments due to COVID-19.
In 2020, the city provided nearly $34 million in rental assistance to 16,000 households that qualified.
This year, another $29 million will come from federal funding approved by Congress in December, along with an additional $6 million from the city’s general fund.

During a family gathering earlier this month, 10-year-old Jayden Klink stood next to the Christmas tree looking at the handmade ornaments of handprints and said the holiday is about spending time with family, not buying gifts. 
Jayden s mom, 50-year old Renee Klink of Noblesville, blinked back tears at that heartfelt admission while explaining she s teaching him such lessons because money is tight this holiday. She s worried about being evicted if she can t pay rent.

Klink hasn t worked since March, when she lost her corporate catering job amid the coronavirus pandemic.
