Niger s human rights commission has called for an independent inquiry following alleged rapes, including that of an 11-year old girl, by Chadian soldiers deployed in the west African country to help fight Islamist militants.

Fort Bliss has started making some El Paso businesses off limits for soldiers. Operation Ironclad has been put into place after multiple incidents involving Army personnel. One such incident even ended up with a soldier dying while at the Cincinnati district. A spokesperson for Fort Bliss, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allie Payne, said:
When you think about late hours, you think about being 21. There s not too many folks that have reasons that they shouldn t go out and have a good time, but we want them to do that safely and most importantly, we don t want them to hurt other folks. So that is the whole purpose behind this, how can we educate them into areas that might be dangerous for them. ....

The White House announced Monday that it will continue adding to the number of safe and trusted places people can get vaccinated during the pandemic, which has killed more than 555,000 in the U.S., including nearly 6,200 Coloradans.
“There are tremendous efforts being taken locally to administer vaccines,” Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, said in a news conference Monday.

VA Secretary McDonough tours Montana with Sen. Tester

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) Veteran Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough heard frustrations over high turnover rates among health care providers at the agency as he began a three-day tour of Montana on Monday his first official trip since being confirmed in February.
The former chief of staff for President Barack Obama was invited to Montana by Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, the newly-named chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
McDonough said in response to concerns about high turnover that he wanted to make the VA “a place where people want to work.” He also highlighted money to help upgrade VA facilities that was included in the Biden administration’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief package. ....
