Opposition's narrative on FATF shameful: Hammad

June 27, 2021
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar Saturday termed the opposition parties’ narrative on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) shameful and condemnable.
Addressing a news conference, the minister said the world community and FATF acknowledged and recognized the considerable progress and efforts made by Pakistan on an action plan with high-level commitment.
He said the opposition was making political point scoring for its gains adding the national economy was heading in the right direction due to prudent economic policies of the incumbent government. He said FATF has also given a new 7-point action plan.
The new action plan was mainly focused to counter money laundering, which was relatively easy than the terror financing. “We have set a target to meet this in 12 months,” he said.

A Napier man has been left shaken and several thousand dollars short after two burglars broke into his commercial business and stole a safe from his office.
Shortly after 5am on February 26, Colourcraft Painting, Decorating and Coating Contractors director Peter Gerbes received a call from the security team because the building's alarm had been activated.
He couldn't see anything on the cameras so dismissed it as a false alarm and went back to bed.
About 20 minutes later he got a call from the police and this time rushed down to the site on Cadbury Rd.

US: Jesuit Priests To Pay $100M For Slaveholding

US: Jesuit Priests To Pay $100M For Slaveholding
'Our shameful history of Jesuit slaveholding' in US has been taken off the dusty shelf,’ says Fr. Tim Kesicki.
A US Catholic order has reportedly pledged to raise $100 million for the descendants of the slaves it once owned and sold by creating a foundation.
The New York Times reported on Monday that the Jesuit priests' foundation described the move as "one of the largest efforts by an institution to atone for slavery."
"In a landmark undertaking in the pursuit of racial healing and justice, descendants of ancestors enslaved and sold by the Jesuits and the Jesuits of the United States have announced a partnership to create the Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation," the Jesuit priests said in a statement.
