The exhibition includes a background painting by maritime artist Randall Wilson and a documentary by Wayne Gibbs. Two veterans that served on the ship, Petty Officer Des Shinkfield and Signalman Bruce Crowlmong, were among the 60 people at the opening. ....
Angelique Bacon-Woodard LOCK HAVEN Lock Haven University welcomed seven African-American alumni for its virtual Black History Month Alumni Panel. Six alumni panelists shared career advice and highlights from their time at The Haven, also while discussing how their LHU experiences helped propel their professional successes. Ed Wright is a 1971 graduate of Lock Haven State College and a former president of the Lock Haven University Alumni Association. Wright helped organize the event along with Kenny Hall, LHU’s director of diversity, equity and inclusion. “I want to thank all of the panelists for joining us and sharing their experiences,” Hall said. “I especially want to thank Ed Wright for being so instrumental in the organization of this event. We wouldn’t have been able to put together such a great event without him.” ....
Feb 16, 2021 LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven University Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the LHU Alumni Association will host a panel of African American alumni at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 on Zoom. The event part of the university’s Black History Month celebration events. The panel will discuss the African American experience at LHU from the 190s to the present day. Six African American alumni panelists from the past five decades will share professional success stories and highlights from their time at The Haven and how LHU helped propel their professional success. Panelists include Ed Wright ’71, Brenda (Jones) Elby ’73, Dr. Angelique “Angie” Bacon-Woodard ’86, Dr. Warren Edward Whitaker Sr. ’05, Lawrence Wright ’99 and Wayne Gibbs’89. The event will be moderated by Albert Jones ’99. There will be a Q & A segment at the end of the panel and the event is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. ....
