Observed throughout May, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a time to recognize the history, traditions, culture, and contributions of our country’s Asian and Pacific Islander community. This year, the Detroit Institute of Arts is celebrating the heritage month with a lineup of nearly 20 virtual events that spotlight artistry from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and more.
Events kick off on May 1 with the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Opening Performance. During the event, choreographer and professional dancer Joori Jung will perform ....

Music, films, dancing and demonstrations from more than 10 different Asian countries will create a cultural experience during the Detroit Institute of Arts celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) that begins Saturday. 
The DIA is celebrating APAHM with a series of mostly free online events and activities. In partnership with the DIA’s auxiliary group, Friends of Asian Arts and Cultures (FAAC), the program includes more than 20 events, including films, music and dance performances, puppet shows, demonstrations, panel discussions and more. It features traditions from more than 10 different Asian cultures, including Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Mongolian, Taiwanese, Thai and Vietnamese. ....

Covid-19 is a trickster. Those who have lived with it the longest often describe the disease as if it knows what mischief it’s making. Miel Singletary Schultz, a 48-year-old “long hauler” and former sailing crew worker in San Diego, thought she had experienced every possible symptom when in October her skin began exuding tiny yellow crystals all over her body; a fellow long hauler suggested it might be uremic frost, the manifestation of a kidney disease. The skin discharge was not the most debilitating of her dozen-plus symptoms, which included headaches, nerve pain, cognitive dysfunction, hair loss, constipation, and extreme weight loss, but this one seemed especially sinister. ....
