Hollywood celebrities are rushing to blame the shooting deaths of eight people in the Atlanta area on anti-Asian racism, despite the police indicating that race wasn’t the motive. According to a law enforcement official, the suspect has claimed the shootings at three massage parlors were related to an apparent sex addiction and his desire to eliminate his sexual temptations.
President Joe Biden refrained from rushing to judgement when reporters asked him about the shooting. “I am making no connection at this moment on the motivation of the killer,” he told reporters Wednesday in the Oval Office. “I’m waiting for an answer as the investigation proceeds from the FBI and the Justice Department.” ....

Police: suspect in US massage parlour shootings says attacks not racially motivated, man may have 'sexual addiction'

A white man accused of killing eight people, most of whom were of Asian descent, at massage parlours in the Atlanta, US area told police the attack was not racially motivated and that he potentially had a “sexual addiction”, officials said Wednesday (local time).
Still, authorities said they were investigating whether the deaths were hate crimes amid concerns over a wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Six of the victims were identified as Asian and seven were women.
Officials did not say that Robert Aaron Long, 21, ever went to the parlours where the shootings occurred. They also said he was planning to go to Florida in a plot to attack “some type of porn industry”. ....

A string of shootings at three spas in the Atlanta area Tuesday left eight people dead six of them reported to be Asian women, raising concerns from some public officials that the attacks could be racially motivated.
Police have not yet offered a motive in the shootings, which happened over an hour Tuesday before a suspect was taken into custody that night.
But because of many of the victims’ backgrounds, some officials and organizations have raised fears that ethnicity came into play, amid rising concerns nationwide about anti-Asian violence during the coronavirus pandemic. Six of the eight victims were Asian women, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing authorities. ....
