The commission a buyer s agent earns is in the spotlight.
A number of suits have criticized the way the commissions are set up, alleging the arrangement has an upward pressure on prices. While buyers agents have a fiduciary responsibility to the homebuyer, their commissions are largely set by the homeseller before the property is listed on an agent-to-agent database known as the multiple listing service.
Despite being paid by the seller, buyers agents are required to work in the homebuyers best interest which means they should not steer buyers to one house or another just because of how much they ll be paid. However, phone calls recorded by the brokerage Rex seem to show real estate agents doing just that. ....

Rice University sociologist Stephen Klineberg believes decisions to increase walkability and find oil alternatives are essential to Houston s future.
In a town that has historically run on oil as its lifeblood, Houston took a profound hit when the coronavirus pandemic hit last March.
In a somber footnote to 2020, more than 100 oil and gas companies declared bankruptcy across the U.S., according to the Houston Chronicle, triggering the worst energy industry downturn in a generation.
In an interview with Chron, Rice University sociologist Stephen Klineberg discussed some of the significant demographic trends and challenges facing Houston in 2021. Moving away from the old frontier of oil will be a necessity as Houston becomes the Third Coast, Klineberg said.
