MOULTRIE, Ga. Children played in the spray as the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority opened the new splash pad Saturday at the Southwest Memorial Pool complex.
The fun area was a new addition during renovations of the complex, which took more than a year to complete.
The complex overall opened with a ribbon cutting March 24, but actually using the facilities was delayed while crews finished some last-minute work. The splash pad was supposed to be opened last weekend, but the authority postponed it because the weather forecast called for chilly weather. ....

The much-anticipated transtasman travel bubble between New Zealand and Australia finally has a start date: April 19 - and the announcement has made a splash globally.
Quarantine-free travel between New Zealand and Australia can begin in less than two weeks, at 11.59pm on April 19.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins this afternoon confirmed that all the conditions for the bubble have been met.
The director general of health considers the risk of transmission of Covid-19 from Australia to New Zealand is low and that quarantine free travel is safe to commence, Ardern said. ....

Mahurangi Community Trading Post committee presents a cheque to the Kowhai Swimming Club.
The Mahurangi Community Trading Post donated $5000 to the Kowhai Swimming Club this month.
The money will be used to replace worn out lane dividers at the Mahurangi College pool where the swimmers train.
Swim coach Jill Fayerman says new thicker dividers will help swimmers by reducing “wash” caused by the wake of other swimmers.
She says dividers are particularly important for keeping juniors swimming in a straight line.
The club has a competitive squad, a junior squad and also hosts training for Omaha surf lifesaving juniors. ....
