BUSES are being made more accessible to vulnerable passengers as drivers become dementia friends. Swindon’s Bus Company is marking Dementia Action Week – May 17 to 23 – by completing training with the Alzheimer’s Society to ensure its services are more accessible. General manager Alex Chutter said: “ Dementia Action Week is an excellent time to announce that 98 of our drivers are already ‘dementia friends’. “They are fully aware of the special requirements, and can help to make their journeys comfortable and stress-free. In order to achieve this, we added a specific dementia-friendly aspect to our Customer Promise course, which all our drivers have now completed. It was so successful that we ve added it to our starter programme. This means any new members will become dementia friends as part of their trainee tool kit. It is about ensuring all our customers receive excellent service, no matter what they re having to deal with elsewhere.” ....
The road was shut by police after the assault at around 9.15am. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: We were called to a report of an assault on Thames Avenue this morning at approximately 9.15am. One man was taken to Great Western Hospital but is being transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with a life-threatening head injury. Our investigation is at a very early stage but the two men involved are understood to be known to each other and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public. A cordon was set up on Thames Avenue while our enquiries were carried out. No arrests have been made at this stage. ....
