NEW YORK, NY
.- Resurgence, an art exhibit featuring work by 28 established and emerging artists, opened in the World Trade Center’s Oculus on Thursday, June 24, and runs through July 25, 2021. The show is open to the public, and many of the artists will be present to talk about their work and experience. The exhibit is on the C1 level, directly under 4 World Trade Center.
Resurgence was curated by New York City native Clayton Calvert. The featured artists address the theme of resurgence with unique voices and perspectives. They come from different backgrounds and locales, but all have works that speak to each other visually and thematically. Resurgence is an example of a group of artists coming together to make a distinct and impactful visual statement with the goal of positively impacting visitors.

Thousand Islands artist featured in racial justice exhibit at major U.S. cities

HEATHER HAYNES: The painting is of an elderly couple embraced in a loving position. The woman is snuggled up to her husband, almost going to kiss him on the cheek. It's a universal symbol of love. This is an Mbuti couple who we would think of as Pygmy, traditional Pygmy indigenous people of Idjwi Island.
So I've painted them in a way that they have halos around their head, but in the form of how saints were in churches. I've actually used 23 karat gold leaf around their heads, and then I have rays coming out from that, like you would in stained glass. And then I've put in the natural foliage that's seen there on Idjwi Island. I see them as a culture of people that we should be looking up to, but instead, in reality, they're suffering one of the worst fates of a human being on this planet right now.

KEYSER - With opportunities and activities for all ages making the libraries in Keyser, Burlington and Fort Ashby vital parts of the local communities, the library system is once again having to reach out to those communities for financial support.
The board of directors for the Mineral County Public Library system recently explained that, in 2020, the library was given a waiver from its required match for state funding due to COVID-19 limitations.
“This waiver from the state made it possible for the system of libraries to continue offering as many services as possible during a national pandemic,” said the library board in a letter to local businesses.

It’s an exciting time for Mineral County’s libraries as hours are expanding and new programs are opening up.
After a year of reduced hours and modified services due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, the libraries are opening their doors more and more while still maintaining social distancing and taking extra precautions.
In Keyser, the new hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“The Children’s librarian/programmer at Keyser has been working hard putting together a thrilling “May Mystery Program!” said Heather Haynes, library director. “The kids are going to solve the mystery of a missing cartoon character. The premise for the program is that the librarians need the children’s help with a mystery that’s occurred at the library.”
