Former President Barack Obama has asked for public contributions to a live telethon supporting the Red Cross of Hawaii to assist victims of the Maui wildfires. Malama Maui, hosted by KHON-TV, is scheduled to be held from 5 am. to 10 a.m. Monday on the local news station. Maui County says the number of confirmed deaths from the wildfires has risen to 96. Hawaii Gov. Josh Green says he expects the number of victims to increase. In a video message released Sunday, Green says 2,700 structures were destroyed in the town of Lahaina with an estimated loss of $5.6 billion. Green says FEMA is overseeing the federal disaster response with 416 personnel on the ground in Hawaii.
