A bittersweet milestone
On a crisp, gray Tuesday morning in San Francisco, Dr. Antonio Gomez rolled up his sleeve and made history, taking a shot in the arm to become the first person in the Bay Area to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Vaccinations of medical professionals began in earnest across the Bay Area on Tuesday, even as the region reported a record-shattering 6,775 cases on Monday and Gov. Gavin Newsom said California had ordered 5,000 body bags in response to the rapidly rising number of deaths from COVID-19 in the state.
