There’s synergy between plans for two huge projects that could help shape San Diego County’s future for generations to come.
The $160 billion regionwide transportation plan has a main high-speed rail line that stretches from San Ysidro near the border with Mexico to Oceanside at the northern edge of the county.
The tracks would run right through a massive housing and commercial development proposed by the Navy on the current NAVWAR site not far from San Diego International Airport.
For planners, it may be a match made in heaven. The transportation plan depends on high-density housing along the transportation corridors. The Navy is looking to partner with a private developer to build up to 10,000 units in high-rises along Pacific Highway.
