Good morning weve got a big show this morning joining the conversation fox business megyn mcdowell and tom bevin and pollster of partners author of persuasion lee carter the great to see you. A lot of news to talk about today actually first lets talk about futures in china. Because markets are up this morning pointing higher this morning, a gain of start of trading gets because of some optimism over potential deal with china. China said it is going to raise penalties. On i. P. Theft surveillances major point of the negotiations with states and continue trade talk last week this has to be a positive. I think a lot of people are feeling this. But do we believe this . That china is, in fact, going to enforce this that ip theft is against the law . This is not even a trust that verify situation because we dont have any trust with china baked into their Business Model with i. P. And you know theyll have to prove themselves i think before anybody believes theyre going follow through on this. We want to point out that had news is finally official charles is announcing it is acquiring a mare trade this term that i told you about last week 26 billion dollars in a price tag for the trade here to create an asset manager beto better compete with folks like vanguard and i shares take a looked a shares right now up 2 on official word we told you about this last week apparently my sources told me over the weekend that the reason for the week delayed in term of not amounting this after first rotted this last week was there were documents that were not signed. Thats all i could get but it is pretty much all of the details that i reported last week 26 billion dollar deal all stock deal deegan. Now get approval that could be a hurgdz because number one and number two on Online Brokers merging but landscape has changed so much in recent year in financial services. It is i dont to say it is safe to say but it will get approved but if theres going to be great scrutiny of the deal. So it will be a while before it close. Sm taking one and two right number one and number two sure you would imagine. Republican only one other one thats e trade thats left in the major brokers. Theres been some new players entered the market but not way that schwab are in the broker business. Not even a broker anymore because of the size and assets like it is a bank but it is acquiring broker to the trade so that is something and markets like deals something that you have all stock deal 26 billion in stock so still all stock still 26 billion dollars despite that huge rally in the stock. Last week when it first entered the market and i reported it in and others reported it as well. But what happened was when Charles Schwab announced it was going to no commissions. Trade stocks had had a bet and so it had taken some time for it to get back to wrote it was before the Charles Schwab announcement so not even though the stock went up on the deal news it is not the stock had been down significantly when schwab basically wiped out commissions. Well see if this fires up a rally in all of the Online Companies today. And financial services, as people suspect that more consolidation is coming go to the also this morning as well and hong kong is big story resident voting overwhelmingly overnight in support of the prodemocracy candidate in local elections. Yesterday, prodemocracy candidate winning 85 of peats up for reelection. Progovernment side weighing 13 this was President Trump is still considering signing the bill passed for house of representatives backing prodemocracy protesters on sunday morning futures i spue we can the president assistance to trade and manufacturing policy, peter about that bill. Will president sign the bill . Should get a noble peace a prize for iran and korean peninsula. Retaliate if the president signs it will the president sign it . Sm what the president said was that if it werent for him, they would have a million soldiers in hong kong and it be over in 14 minutes solet see what happens if the president decision. He stangdz with hong kong but this is a real balance because if president pass this is bill and house overwhelmingly pass this is bill and comien will retaliate what are your reactions to this . I think it is a really, really tough position to be in because to you keep china negotiator with a important trade deal right now i think that could tip the scales there. So i would not be surprised if he held office on signing until announcement. Asked to sign the bill he said had look we stand with hong kong protesters but i also stand with my friend xi xi jinping he wants to support protesters, however, ire respect of that thats that was a huge problem for the government of beijing 85 overwhelmly double yet 3 Million People vote. 70 of the population showed up to vote. Unbelievable so this is going to be about an ongoing problem for beijing i mean they, obviously, reasserted that hong kong is China Hong Kong but not going away. Nice to say peter has a high perp lee app on his phone. Againlet just talk about news of the day. Ill lean on the wallthe wall t journal editorial Hong Kong Freedom message that point out that xi jinping will make a decision on trade talks in china coldblooded National Interest if he thinks it is in best interest of China Economy hell agree tows materials whether or not President Trump signs the new hong kong bill and after this vote in hong kong the journal editorial page writes veto by mr. After demonstration of courage by hong kong voters e veto would betray america values and be a show of weakness to china. So ill leave it at that. A delicate balance for sure and well see what the president does. All right other big news yesterday is 2020 former new york city mayor billionaire businessman Michael Bloomberg officially entering 2020 democratic race making announcement yesterday he ran an ad as well weve got that ad on sundaying morning futures i spoke with former qhows chief strategist steve bannon he called this months ago on the program. That bloomberg went into the race heres what had he said yesterday after it was official. Your reaction officially entering the white house. Every town usa antigun it is i think actually on a grass root basis and from a practical basis, a stronger apparatus democracy pert and put in chess pieces in place knowing how to apply capitol knowing where Pressure Point are in this district and having a grays root a rat rues shouldnt discount but do you think he resonates with the entire country . Not just new york where he was a three term mayor . Ming does he resonate with democratic volters, no he is a billionaire trying to buy this race that would be the narrative youre going hear from the left hes worth what 54 billion dollars dont you have Something Else to spend your money on. Well thats the question. And spend it on climate too by the way. Coif a guy who is elitist so hes got to got some grumpiness problems and i think it will be interesting to watch him because trump when he hit the campaign trail, it was very clear and lee has sod this it was very clear in the summer of 2015. That something was really afoot in terms of the passion of donald trump towards the voters and the passion of the voters towards donald trump mayor bloomberg just doesnt have that. How much like how much stock do you put in that that the buzz dagen is talking about. Came down that elevator. The energy is something that was palpable that you foal and i say you can feel it when youre with the person who is winning and interesting what bloomberg has chosen not to go directly to people hes done it by a video he announced by a letter and were not seeing so he knows weakness hes not really popular with people oneonone but he does know and i think important point he does really know how to do this Grassroots Movement to get people energized and excited. So im going to be interested to see if hes not running totally Different Campaign running before. So the dark money in politics and how much money was involved in the democrats win last year in the house. Dont forget Michael Bloomberg gave the democrats last year 110 Million Dollars to win the majority in the house. He was successful. They won. What are your real clear politics polls say about bloomberg . Smg hes just 1 his unfavorable ratings are pretty high so hes not theres not a clamber out there but he has a strategy and strike that is strategy is around imploding and not holding up there and bloomberg spending 31 million and his strategy is hell be there to pick up piece on super tuesday as only viable centrist to joe biden so hes a strategy. Question is will in thes allow and pass go lest not forget Howard Schultz lets not forget others there were howard and tim ryan other guy im thinking about that couldnt pass go because he did not want a centrist. It certainly i agree with dagen in sense that the idea that 75yearold or whatever, you know, 77 set the white billion nor is answer the democrats are looking for. Who is not even going to participate in iowa, New Hampshire, south carolina, is going to go all of the distance. If theres a financial calamity next year then he can swoop in and address that because he was great for new york and for the finances. He was. He also very much not at hes very got the gun control entity and so hes very left on some issues but he could find that middle ground next year but i think, i think that how he interacts with individuals in the midwest and in the south is beginning to be really critical. I bet one of the first thing he would do is cutting debt thats something thats important to himlet take a break were Getting Started this morning we have a big show this morning also on deck coming up darrell issa is here on impeachment and the upcoming 2020 Election Form or house speak of the house talks 2020 bid. Welcome back a lot of happening this morning it is a bit of a merng enmonday this morning on wall street Charles Schwab announcing it is acquiring pd trade making it official moments ago we told you about this last week will acquire trade for 6 billion in all stock. A looked a stock this is morning in premarket and up another 2 this morning. Meanwhile theres this ldmh Parent Company to Louis Vuitton reaching deal to acquire tiffany and agreed to pay 135 a share for tiffany stock is up 6 this morning on that news in premarket and theres this acquiring cholesterol drug maker medicines for 9. 7 billion and swiss drug maker hoping to expand reach in lucrative heart Medicine Market all of the stock on the move this morning and joining us is strategy chief strategist Michael Lee Mike fell great to see you thanks so much. When you see a lot of deal like this is the reason to buy stock . This is your one of your basketball markets eyeing in corporate boardroom and other things to do so a shortterm period market all of the bullish indicators are slashing green, green, green which is typically an indicator when you start sewing setment get when you buy it right now is overtly bullish so maybe over the next couple of week we dont have a strong market but pull out to be an absolute buyer. How much does imeesmment inquiry matter to investor . You know, i think youve got i dont know how much market is up been like 3 or 4 . So almost zero right you know. Markets because investor did you want think hell get removed from office . I dont know that anybody think theyre going to get removed from office but theres a lot of money behind politicians that are pushing this sort of impeachment, and i dont think he can go back on this sort of campaign proms. For a lot of people pushing this forward. But i cant see the president being removeds over this. Mike you mentioned, the next possible pullback over next few week whats consumer sent m like and numbers look like . You find out today because we with get the Conference Board consumers sentiment so tomorrow tuesday, excuse me. So what youre seeing in a consumer right now is nothing short of historic if you look at the weekly jobless claims four week around 212,000 thats lowest since late 1970s but work force doubled and number is not adjusted for labor size so you look at that and we look at the jolt number job opening that peaked at 7. 6 million, and it has come down to about million you know it is also falled off by 600,000 number of unemployed workers so were still at about 1. , 1 million jobs wage growth and up 17 over last three years First Time Since the 90s. 17 . In the last three careers. Yeah. Wow. So its that has translated to consumer. You look at every real consumer metric Consumer Confidence and consumer comfort near all time high with a great number from university of michigan whats what also not talked sb debt consumer so Consumer Debt and what had it takes to pay that debt in service what debt is percentage of take home income and lowest level in 230 years to relative to asset low fest level in 30 years so until this labor market start to fall apart i dont think youre going to see any real pullback in consumer i would say thats bifurcated youll get the have and have notes but wank for bottom 10 are growing three time as fast than top 10 . I love that. A lot of good things going on were consumer driven economy headline in the journal today about Business Investment. Slowing down a little bit. It has weve been talking about that. Up 20 , you know compared to january, 2016, so were see lake of that back and i think near the end of the cycle but i think recession or end of the cycle is 2020 story. The number that mike is referencing in the article that the wall street journal writes is that capital spend by s p 500 companies rose in the Third Quarter by less than 1. They are combined 1. 38 billion from a second quarter. This is covering Companies Reporting through the middle of the month. It would have fallen without apple and amazon so there were two companies. Essentially keeping that number in positive territory. Just what hes talking about. Pointing out that nancy she thinks 2020 will be going up during that out there. Thats research. But this market going into the Holiday Season is going to not just on trade but could trade on headlines about Consumer Spending during the holiday. Thats something to Pay Attention to. Theres nothing out there that says that consumer and labor market is slowing down were not seeing Business Investment that we would like at this level but theres a lot of catalyst for that were going get to a form of a china trade deal at some point soon not this deal that we would like. U. S. Mca a i dont know how that doesnt get passed. You know, stop getting passed this year mike like they have 10 how many day does congress have left this year . 10 legislative day . Look, you know that gives us another catalyst for 020 you have china trade and pmi bottoming out and that another japan deal so all of these thingses are going to to happen next year and also one thing thats not being factored into this article in the journal boeing 737 max coming backing onloon to mac a huge difference across Manufacturing Sector a lot of demanding there so theres a lot of wind at our sails to push us high entire next year and equities from a perspective we really need to get to an outis stretched evaluation for there to be the end of the bull market and were just not there yet at 17 time earning and once youre above a 20 then i would say maybe just a little bit excessive. By the way i hard theres one man holding up u. S. Mca who was person who told nancy pelosi dont do to. Richard trump head of the aflcia now he doesnt like terms in terms of health care and jobs. For the American Worker so well watch that so you would buy stocks now bottom line. Yeah. And especially if theres a pullback. Aflcio sorry about nap wick break michael thank you well sou you soon. Maria welcome back, good monday morning, thank you so much for joining us, im maria bartiromo, it is monday november 25th, thanksgiving week, 6 30 a. M. This morning, we are looking at gain at start of trading on renewed optimism of u. S. China trade deal, that follows news from china that china is vowing to add more protections for intellectual property, helping fuel a global rally this morning, we will tell you exactly what china said, futures indicating gain of 66 points at the start of trading, s p up 6 and a half, nasdaq futures up 25, the dow, nasdaq and s p 500 finished higher friday but all down for the week, s p 500 snapped a sixth week winning streak last week, green across the board in europe, take a look at european indices, better than 2 , cac quarante in paris up 22 and dax index in germany up 53 points, big win by prodemocracy candidate in hong kong overnight, u. S. China trade deal all very good news for the markets overnight, hang seng up 1 and a half percent on the election news, 70 of the population came out to vote, how about that . All the stories coming up this monday morning, first top story this half an hour, impeachment inquiry goes on as House Speaker nancy pelosi and democrats push ahead, usmca still ahead. Peter navarro and white house chief strategist steve bannon joined me yesterday discussing possibilities on sunday morning futures. What can you tell us in terms of the cost, how do you call it the opportunity costs . The opportunity costs great concept in economics, its the cost of not doing something, so the extent that pelosi waste legislative calendar on impeachment, shes not doing a bunch of things, lets run through the numbers here, you start with usmca best greatest, brilliant trade deal in history, they dont pass it, its about 200,000 jobs, its about a point of gdp growth, nancy pelosi is risking now her speakership by continuing to press on and even train to have impeachment vote, they have invested in this, particularly the media, inside the beltway democrats and the media are so invested. Maria joining us to talk more about that former california congressman darrell issa, thank you so much for being here. Thanks for covering this amazing show of basically nothing that we are dealing with on capitol hill, ive never seen so much attention spent by a committee thats supposed to meet in secrecy. Maria well, you know what, ive been looking at it this way, here we are at the beginning of thanksgiving week, congress has gone home, they are now going to have to explain to their constituents at home in their districts what theyve been doing for the last couple of months and there isnt much to say, i wonder what you think about some of those representatives who are worried in the districts that donald trump won and we are talking about 31 districts where donald trump won in 2016 and there are democrats up for reelection in 2020. Well, its interesting that i think theyre going to be trying to not be called turkeys during this season, as you say, 31 including one in california districts are held by districts that we expect President Trump not only to carry but probably carry additional districts based on the economy and, of course, in california, in san diego, in los angeles, in Orange County where we lost districts, we lost 7 seats in the last election in california, california depends on free and fair trade, usmca, the old nafta was good for california, usmca is even better for california, so theyll be a lot of pressure on on people to vote that way, you might remember many years ago in the nafta vote it was anyhow, we had a congresswoman here and she was a freshman, she voted yes on the tax increase and no on nafta and when she did, she was out of office and brian replaced her, so the the reality is in san diego, whether youre a republican or democrat, free and fair trade works, san diego depends onto great extent trade with mexico. Dagen just to point out some of the polls, congressman, good to see you, 538 average National Polls of impeachment, support for impeachment has fallen to 36. 3 from 50. 3 in midoctober and especially among independents, to 41 over the last 3 weeks, so especially among independents, the support is falling despite narrative being pushed by the left. I think its really important and congressman im curious to know what is behind that. Well, whats behind it is the fact that theres no there there. You know, people did not go and read the transcript, they waited to have an interpreted to them and what they found was that if you interpret it fairly there was no wrongdoing, as a matter of fact, the American People, people ive talked to walked up to me and said, let me understand, when joe biden stopped an investigation of his son from making a Million Dollars in ukraine with no knowledge of how to do that job, thats okay, but when you ask to look into, you know, reopen the investigation if appropriate, thats not okay, so the question really for the American People is is joe biden above the law or his son or they are not above the law, i was surprised that people got detail, its really about whether or not foreign corruption should be looked at if it involves highranking americans. The other thing in polls that is interesting and you can probably speak to this as well is that trump is now doing better in generic ballot polls in battleground states. Dagen wisconsin last week. Beating all contenders. Thats not the way it was looking and things are shifting despite 24 7 coverage of impeachment. Maria now they are going home, they will have to explain what theyve been doing, the American People are smart, most of them, look at the ratings for impeachment hearings, theyve gone down because its too complicated, too many investigations, all muddies it all up, people dont really know what is happening. Congressman, that begs the question, is there a chance that nancy pelosi will not go through with a vote on impeachment and, in fact, the white house thinks they might pull the plug on this, do you think this is a possibility . Well, we had the same rumor back in the days of bill clinton of should we or shouldnt we and in retrospect, sensor would have been appropriate because in the case of bill clinton helped him to be itch impeached and not be confirmed and should she do it, politically she should, can she do it with aoc biting at her backside, i dont think so. Maria Michael Bloomberg enters officially, what do you think his chances are . You know, america has never really been that keen on people buying elections but michael proved that you could do it in new york time and time again and so, you know, the only thing i can say is he can run on a record of being less bad by far than your current mayor who has also been in the race. If he stands there and compares his time as mayor, he had 12 years of holding onto what Rudy Giuliani created in new york, thats no longer the case as you know as a new yorker. Maria i wonder if hes bad for democrats because he just divides the party, you know, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders arent going to be happy about this, thats for sure and i dont know if if he is in fact, the centrist. I just wonder if he could really talk about sticking it to the rich in a convincing way. Maria yeah. Darrell, good to see you, thank you so much. Thank you, maria. Maria darrell issa joining us there. Cheryl on headlines. Second pick today, third by the redskins as he celebrates with the fans. Last field goal attempt. Maria that was Washington Redskins quarterback dewayne missing final snap, first nfl win by taking selfie with a fan, joining us right now quarterback chad, chad, great to have you this morning. Thanks for having me. Maria what did you think of that . Thats the beauty of social media now, players and fans being able to connect. I love it. Dagen youre being very kind as lifelong Washington Redskins fan, they suck, 29, second win of the season. They are terrible. You dont get to celebrate a win when youre 29. Yes, you do. Dagen nfc which is Worst Division in all of football, cowboys are in first place with 65 record which is terrible. Maria how about them jets, your former team doing really well yesterday, they beat the Oakland Raiders with Third Straight victory by quarterback donald, your thoughts on donald so far . Im excited, hes 22 years old, we placed the franchise on the 22 years old shoulders, as fans we get excited about the potential that we see and the last 3 games certainly showed that. Maria i feel like the last year has been real turnaround for football, nfl, a year ago we were knee deep talking about concussions, about the kneeling controversy, do you think sentiment has changed for football . Well, i think first of all, you can see how we all love the game and what the game can do to bring us together, really talk about things like social change, talk about things head injuries, we are in a unique position as a game to really push conversations forward. I think its a great opportunity for us to have. Dagen can you talk about the games yesterday and who was looking really good heading to the end of the season, you look at nfc west, youve got, incredible records for both the 49ers, the 101 and the seahawks winning against the eagles, how good did the seahawks look and 49ers look towards the end of the season . Well, i think most teams really feel good about quarterback play, how efficient can the quarterback be and both teams with Russell Wilson and jimmy, good efficient quarterbacks that are playing at high level. Any time you have that going into playoff contention you feel really good about where you are and you look at tonights matchups, thats excite with what Lamar Jackson has been able to do on the field. Dagen 82 record for the ravens and then, of course, the saints win yesterday we are in sweet spot with quarterback playing. You have the old heads and brady and breese and rogers and you have the new guys coming in and the great thing about quarterback position theres no cookie cutter way of playing the position. Maria how about collin kaepernick, not garnering much attention after kneeling controversy . I thought about this a lot and for me it comes down to two questions and whats ironic about the situation, the two questions that we are asking, is kaepernick good enough to play in the nfl and number 2 and what we look at what he has done in social justice platform, is that a good thing and good cause, both sides would agree yes and say yes to both of the questions, how do we bring both sides together and really do something together, thats what im looking forward to, i would like to see him continuing calls on social justice part. Dagen i can explain more about that, the journal reported over the weekend. Maria you wonder what kind of a risk it is for a manager or league owner to take on Colin Kaepernick right now. One of the things that we forget about when we look at football we are trying to eliminate a distraction because its hard to win Football Games and whether that causes good, bad or indifferent you try to limit distractions. Maria youre a high school if you believe coach heavily involved in youth football, tell us about middle and High School Levels real quick . Nfl set it is standard but the health of the game lies in our grassroots level, High School Football programs, thats where the game lies and being able to start a program, being involved in youth football and flag football and flex football really nice to be part of that. Maria great for you, chad, we will be right back, stay with us. Hi honey, we got in early. Yeah, and we brought steve and mark. Experience the power of sanctuary at the lincoln wish list sales event. Thanks so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. It is monday, november 25. Your top stories right now. There is u. S. China trade optimism this morning. China is looking to strengthen protection of intellectual Property Rights including new punishments for any violations wham it meancha it means for u. A trade deal. Charles schwab and Td Ameritrade deal is official. Its an all stock deal valued at 26 billion. Weve got more details on the deal this morning. Which is expected to close second half of the year next year. We have a luxury giant getting bigger, Louis Vuittons Parent Company acquiring tiffany for 16. 2 billion. Then this, novartis with a 9. 7 billion deal for the Medicines Company. All those deals rocking the stocks this morning. Meanwhile, theres this. Renewed optimism on the u. S. China trade front helping fuel a global rally, dow futures up 76 points this morning. S p futures up 7 andahalf and nasdaq futures up 28. Yesterday the dow, nasdaq and s p finished higher, they that was on friday, of course. They were all down for the week. The dow snapped a fourweek winning streak last week. Global markets look like this. Futures are higher and so are european indices. Fq100 is up 65, cac is up 23 and dax is up 58. Big win for pro democracy candidates in hong kong overnight, that has renewed hopes as well as the renewed hopes on the u. S. China trade deal pushing markets higher in asiaover night. Hang seng is up one andahalf percent. 70 of the population showed up to vote. Then this, tesla charging up sales following a not so smashing debut. Elon musk is claiming 200,000 orders this morning. Well show you how hes showing off the strength of his new cyber truck. Stock is up almost 4 . All those stories coming up this monday morning. Joining me to break it down, Dagen Mcdowell, tom bevin and author of persuasion, lee carter. Great to see everyone this morning. We have breaking news, schwab is confirming what you heard here first last week. That is that schwab will aacquire Td Ameritrade. Here is more information i have. This is expected to be an accretive deal, 15 to 20 accretive to operating cash in year three. It assumes expense synergies. There are additional synergies expected through real estate, administrative and others. They are going to be revealed at a later date. You are seeing td receiving two board of director seats on the overall new company. Two schwab board of director seats as well. Td to receive two schwab board of director seats, so td is getting two board seats. Expected deal close in the second half of 2020. The stocks are down. We talked about this last week, dagen and why this is important because youre looking at fees dropping to zero which Charles Schwab basically triggered. Dagen right. And a focus as you said, its not a Brokerage Firm anymore. Its as you said, its a bank. Theres going to be a big focus on, say, trust services. This is a way that you generate fees and you lock up those assets for literally generations to come. So watch for that and watch for the announcement of plans as the two begin their integration and face regulatory scrutiny. Thats going to be how tall a hurdle, i dont know, but certainly a hurdle. Maria here ws what ubs is writing about that. Let the regulatory debate continue. The analysts there, bears point to the ria share, had that is the vendor leverage versus bulls pushing back on the moderate percentage of retail amounts. No doubt, giving the top one and two players merging will receive some scrutiny, regular regulatory scrutiny. There are other deals to point out today. The top story this hour, Michael Bloomberg officially in the 2020 democratic race. He made the announcement yesterday with a political ad and instagram story. Watch this. He sees a different kind of menace coming from washington so theres no stopping here because theres an america waiting to be rebuilt. Mike bloomberg for president , jobs creator, leader, problem solver, its going to take all three to build back a country. I decided to run because i think its time for a change at the top in the white house. Donald trumps not been a good president. We need to change that. And also, this countrys being pulled apart. We need to pull it together and make sure we help everybody across the country share in the Great American dream. Maria joining us right now is former speaker of the house, newt gingrich. Good to see you. Thank you so much for being here. Its good to be with you. Maria what do you sunshine. I think bloomberg running is a fun story. Maria its a fun story. Does he have a shot to take down President Trump . Well, look, its a free country. Everybody has a shot. I would say his is pretty thin. But if he spent as much per vote as he spent running for mayor of new york, somewhere around 6 billion or 7 billion, hed be very for missable. He can formidable. He can clearly outspend trump. Hes much richer than trump. It depends whether or not bloomberg if you look at his second and third mayor races, he probably set the alltime record for dollars spent per vote. And if he were to go in the truth is, he could hire every teenager in iowa and have them work the precincts the last weekend and suddenly be formidable. Weve never seen anything quite like bloomberg. Maria hes got the money to do it. Last year, he gave the democrats 110 million. Im looking at the politico report this morning where there was an unprecedented gusher of secret money in the democrats arsenal last year when they took the majority, a little known nonprofit spent 141 million on more than 100 leftleaning causes, the spending fueled by massive anonymous donations including one gift, newt, that was 51. 7 million, the single donation was more than the group had ever raised befor for an ene year before President Trump was elected. What is your reaction to all this secret money . Democrats are okay taking the big money. They were trashing the Koch Brothers for years. I always thought whoa woulde better off to have a clean election seen, where people give money in public, reported every night and given to the candidates. Have yoyou have huge machines te unaccountable that can do all sorts of things. Theres a huge scandal building with george soros helping elect left wing district attorneys that are helping to redefine the law. Its happening in philadelphia, saSan Francisco. Its a project to radically change the law by changing the people who enforce it. Weve never seen anything like that level of subversion. Do you think with the democrats attempt to win back the white house, its really all antitrump, even what bloomberg is saying right now is america is waiting to be rebuilt, were being pulled apart, this is all in reaction to i could not run because hes so bad. Do you think thats a strategy thats going to pay off . No. Is it a strategy . Maria 50 year low in unemployment. I was going to say finishing the economy keeps growing, even at a modest rate, the average person looks up when all the noise is over, theyve got a better job, everybody in their family has a better job. If youre middle class or if youre the working poor, your income went up this last year at a record rate. You look around and you think tell me why i should want to risk screwing up the entire economy with these weird left wing ideas and why should i think thats a good idea. And then you look at the homeless in los angeles, the homeless in San Francisco, the homeless in seattle, you look at the rising crime rate in philadelphia and baltimore and you think to yourself, this is what the Democrat Party is going to give me. I think they have a weak, Difficult Campaign ahead of them. Maria i want to get dagen in here. First, listen to what steve ban non said on sunday morning futures. He predicted bloomberg entering the race months ago on this program. Heres his reaction. Steve, let me talk to you about bloomberg. You came on this program months ago and you said he will likely enter the race because you didnt think anybody on the stage could beat trump and you think the democrats know that. Michael bloomberg has been putting the chess pieces in place, knowing how to apply capital, of knowing how to have a grass roots apparatus. You shouldnt discount him. Only person that can beat donald trump right now is donald trump. Theres not another personality that matches up with him one on one. Michael bloomberg doesnt match up at all but in changing the dynamics on the race on the democrats it will change the dynamic. Maria dagen . One of the things you need to watch here is bloomberg might be able to buy enough really big states that are expensive that you go into a brokered convention. I mean, i can imagine him in a california, in a new york, in an illinois, just sheer weight of money getting enough he delegates that nobody can get the traction to be a genuine frontrunner and then you have a wild Convention Next summer. Dagen just one thing about Michael Bloomberg, before he does an you announcement, he looked like he drank half a bottle of kne nyquil. Theres no energy. [ laughter ] dagen theres a story in the New York Times about how theres no enthusiasm in iowa for joe biden. Bloomberg doesnt even have enthusiasm for himself. That ultimately is going to be a problem for him. That is so cruel a comment. [ laughter ] im still back with the nyquil. I havent caught up with i didnt catch one the rest of your analysis. Im still stuck i have this image of bloombergs consultants saying you need to seem very calm. Maria nyquil. So he is very calm. Maria drink this nyquil. Dagen if you say youre going to take on President Trump, you need to have energy about your campaign. Fire in your belly. Thats true. You had the first round of that, the day he was asked about President Trump and he said i dont think little michael is going to make it. Maria yeah. That was the beginning of the end. You come to play with donald trump maria there is a portion of people who dont like the nicknames, like suburban women that the president has to win over. Tom, how do you see it . Well, i agree with newt. Bloomberg certainly has the money to compete but i dont think theres a democrats generally like the candidates they have. And so it will be surprising to me if hes able, particularly if hes not participating in the early states, last time we had that happen it was Rudy Giuliani who said wait until florida and ill be fine. We all know how that worked out. Maria thats true. Newt, its good to see you. Thank you, sir. Its great to be with you. Maria you too. Im going to check out my nyquil. Maria hope we start your morning the right way. Dagen ill say this, made you laugh. Well be thinking about that every time he speaks. Thats a great monday morning opening. Maria an e. Markets are posting gains and the dow once again nears 28,000, up 67 points right now, s p up 6 and nasdaq up 23. Investors seem convinced that steady rates from the Federal Reserve and potential phase one trade deal with china will help markets and the economy. Joining us right now is the cio of federated investors, steven aut. Thanks for being here. Thanks for having me, maria. Maria big picture here, youve got an election in less than a year, my ball bloombergen Michael Bloomberg enters the race. Were expecting a deal with china, with china basically saying yes, we will punish those companies that steal intellectual property, maybe phase one of a deal is close. How do you want to be invested with all of this . Maria, i hate to be a broken record here, but, you know, we are still overweight equities. I know that sounded crazy a year ago when we were down to 24, 50, i was on your show, i remember that day. But, you know, we have a target for next year, 3500 on the s p, the markets had a huge run and sure needs a little bit of a pullback, take a rest, maybe. We may have just had it. The corrections are coming shallower. Over the last two years, the the markets only up eight andahalf percent. The way we look at it, its been in a trading range for two years many its just broken out. All the key risks that everyone was worried about are all fading. We were supposed to be late cycle, recession coming. That seems to be off the table now. In fact, we think were early cycle and reaccelerating. China trade maria apple and microsoft seem to be driving the massive market games, a such hell Companies Due to the such hell Companies Due to the couple Companies Due to the china trade optimism. Pods doubled this year. Microsoft is building Cloud Computing services, beating amazon for the pentagon contract. Youve got a couple names. Is it a narrow market rally and does that bother you . No, it has actually since september, maria, the Broader Market has started to participate. Weve been telling people that the pain trade now is problem blip through the value stocks, the financials, on the technology side, maybe the chip, the hardware names, the industrials. Theyve been held back largely by concerns about the recession and the china deal. Weve had a pullback in those names the last couple of weeks as some of these tech giants have started to do better. But we would really think that the pain trade here is actually through the value stocks. I think theyre very viable in here. Steven, you saw things differently. I remember last year when we had one guest after another calling for a recession this year or early next year. What are the indicators that youre looking at that are so different . How did you see it so differently . We see the consumer side being very strong of weve been putting out these pieces about economic cycles. We think a lot of the economic thought is built around the old days when we were manufacturing economy which has a very natural cycle to it. The manufacturing cycle globally started to turn down in november of last year. Weve been in a downturn for 12 months. It naturally starts to lap and inventory adjustment clears and you start to reaccelerate. But the u. S. Economy now is primarily a servicesdriven economy and that hasnt really it softened up a little bit but its going very strong. Labor markets look very good to us and thats a driver of the consumer and the consumer looks really strong. So our idea is people looking for recessions, we look for a little bit of a soft patch. We think weve come through it. Manufacturings going to start to reaccelerate. If we get this china deal done, brexit being done which looks pretty good too, a lot of the global uncertainty thats plagued the industrial side of the economy, the old economy, if you will is going to come off the table and maria, i would add actually the election is if this economy reaccelerates, its going to be very difficult for President Trump not to be reelected and the markets going to start to sniff that out. Maria do you worry about cap ex falling down, thats one of the issues in terms of the trade uncertainty. Well, again, that is related more to the industrial side of the economy. You get this phase one deal done, i was very encouraged this morning, maria, very similar to the day that the press announcement a phase one itself a few weeks ago, the chinese come out ahead of it and agree to a pay juror trump ask. Without it being part of the deal. They cant agree to everything he wants publicly because it would be humiliating to them. They throw it out as if its their idea. Theyve done it with it, it was their idea, it was not part of the deal but guess what, it is part of the deal. That means we must be very close. Maria great. Well keep watchings. Steven, great to see you. Thanks so much. Likewise. Maria coming up, the impeachment battle, one of the president s senior advisors will weigh in next on the white houses response as the inquiry heats up. Its going to the Judiciary Committee now. Acting white house chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney asked Budget Office officials whether there was a legal just justifin for withholding aide to ukraine. They took place in email in august. Joining us now is tony sayag. Good to see you. Thanks for joining us. Youre now working on the impeachment inquiry at the white house once again. Happy to have you here. What do you want to say about this email situation that we have that Mick Mulvaney was asked about the aid. Look, its very routine for the office of management and budget to have conversations with the agencies about foreign aid. In this particular case it was ukraine. These seem to be very normal courses of action, a normal process. There was as we even learned in the article in the Washington Post legal consensus throughout the entire process that holding up the aid was certainly justified. This goes to a more central issue. We have created this impression that somehow holding up foreign aid is a wrongdoing. Thats not true. We hold it up many times. President s have that obligation to review and make sure that countries were giving foreign aid to are adhering to certain standards and concerns that the United States has. In the case of ukraine, i think its well documented. This is a country that the most affectionate advocates admit has a history of corruption an issues with certain ollie darks and oligarchs and for the president to ask that we dont send blank checks, that review things especially as relate to corruption and in relation to ukraine the president is interested in burden sharing for our allies, and these are routine things that the president has a right, an obligation to review. Maria people are wondering if its all so cutanddry and so clearcut that the president did something wrong, then why is the process changed and the rules of this impeachment inquiry sort of made up as you go along . Yesterday on sunday morning futures i spoke with new york congresswoman elise stefanik. She joined me about the impeachment process and her ability to take on adam schiff as a result. Watch this. You took on adam schiff. What was that like . Give us your sense of what just went on there in that exchange. Well, the American People could see firsthand how partisan this process has been from the start. Adam schiff, these rules that we that were conducted were totally unprecedented. Members were not able to yield time to other members which were allowed to do on the house floor, in every other committee except under adam schiffs regime of secrecy. The American Public have outpoured support from me. They want to hear from members of he congress. Ism proud to have asked some of the best questions of the impeachment proceeding. Maria one of her first questions was did you meet with the whistleblower and that became a really important question as an emmer p son college poll owes Emerson College poll shows the call for impeachment has slipped. Will democrats keep this fight going do you think even though the American People are saying enough, what are you getting done for me. Whats important to note is in october support for impeachment was up and where youve seen the drop most significantly is among independent voters who have reviewed the evidence, reviewed how adam schiff has conducted the hearing and have determined what the evidence shows. The president did nothing wrong, did nothing impeachable. The one thing we do know is that from the start this has not been a fair process, there has not been due process. Do you know the president wasnt able to send attorneys to the hearing. Do you know the republicans were not able to introduce rebutal evidence into that hearing. This was clearly a rigged process. The democrats realized that the 2016 election was an outcome they could not really continue to allow to go forward without challenging it and they know in 2020 theyll have a hard time beating this president. The only place they could try to manipulate the process is in a hearing like that that adam schiff unilaterally controls which is unprecedented. Maria what happens now . Its supposed to go to the judiciary. We dont know for sure. The Intel Committee might want more hearings, right . Look, i think the one thing we do know is the Intel Committee failed to produce any fact or evidence that substantiates their Central Claims that the president did anything wrong to warrant impeachment, removal from office. We know republicans are unified in the house and the senate. The question now is do they realize that the Judiciary Committee is another opportunity for them to potentially call other witnesses to try to salvage the failure of the Intel Committee and try to make some sort of claim that you can impeach this president for basically having a phone call they may or may not have liked. The president s been transparent, been honest throughout the whole process as far as releasing the transcript. He wanted nothing. We learned that from am a bass door gordon sondland, the only witness the democrats called who talked to the president about the ukraine aid. There was no quid pro quo. Ukraine got the aid without conditions, got the meeting with the president and the Vice President without releasing the quote, unquote, statement that people alleged was part of the quid pro quo. Clearly, were at a better place with ukraine, 400 million of lethal military aid that the Obama Administration failed to deliver. I think overall, its very clear that the democrats have failed to make their case. Maria is it more likely that the democrats write articles of 5 u78impeachment and send it toe senate and the senate has a trial and in that case the senate may very well call people like hunter biden and the whistleblower and Michael Horowitz . Or do you think it goes to the senate and a its dead on arrival because they cant call the people they want to call. I think the democra democrae made as miscalculation. They have two choices, one is to listen to the American People, to listen to the members of congress who represent trump districts or swing districts who know the American People would rather them work on lower drug prices, immigration, usmca, infrastructure instead of becoming hyper focused on this hyper partisan impeachment and listen to them and figure out a way out of this mess for themselves and not bring forward articles or theyre going to double down on their already failed strategy by moving articles out of the house. It will go to the senate where we want a trial. Because the president maria you want the trial. The president did nothing wrong. We have other witnesses we need to introduce to this conversation. We need to establish an actual factual record, maria, that was never established in the rigged hearings that adam schiff put forward. Maria isnt that a risky move . You say the white house wants a trial. Is that a risky move when you look at democrats when you look at some republicans who might be nevertrumpers. Its more likely in our view, from a strategic perspective, that youll get democrats voting against impeachment than you will get republicans voting for impeachment. The Republican Party has never been more unified and we have the facts and truth on our side. Maria i know one is Jeff Van Drew from new jersey, he said im definitely voting no unless Something Else comes up that i hadnt seen before. He said other democrat colleagues are voicing concern, were not getting anything done, usmca, prescription drugs, in terms of things left on the table. We talk about the 31 Congress People in trump districts. 13 of them are actually in districts that voted for john mccain, mitt romney and donald trump. Those members are not representing constituents that want to see the president impeached on frivolous charges. They want to see their representatives stand up for themselves, do things like usmca, drug prices, et cetera. You now have members home for thanksgiving. My assumption, maria, is that the way democracy works is the people, the constituents will let them know this is a fools errand to follow adam schiffs and Nancy Pelosis path towards a hyper partisan, unsubstan stated and pointless impeachment because everyone knows the president will not be removed in the senate. Maria now theyre going home to thanksgiving to their districts, theyr going to haveo explain what theyve been doing. Well be watching. Tony, thank you. Coming up, teslas new cyber truck, a money maker in spite of this. You sure . Yeah. Oh, my [bleep]. Well, maybe thats was a little too hard. Maria that shattered window a smashing success for tesla. Deirdre bolton with details. Youve got another angle on this. It includes this. That was funny. Three days after that cyber truck supposedly unbreakable windows shattered as we just saw there on stage, elon musk tweeted this simple number. Look at this, this is the preorders for the allelectric cyber truck. Thats it. Clean, clear, simple, to the point. Well add in a little bravado, 200k. He and his team, by the way, says he was inspired for the design of this by the movie blade runner and some of course calling it post apock lic post. Tesla trying to break into the market typically dominated by ford. Elon musk played a video of the cyber truck pulling the f150 and winning the tug of war. Musk wanted to highlight the cyber trucks strength. As for the shattering of the unbreakable windows on sunday, musk tweeted out what went wrong. He said the problem was in the order he attacked the cyber truck. On thursday, they took a sledgehammer to the door. That cracked the base of the glass. Elon musk kind of made a joke withouabout it, saying okay, ifd to do it all over again, we would throw the steel ball at the window first, then take a sledgehammer to the door. But long story short, i mean, i will also say the 100 that you need to put down to reserve, if you would like a cyber truck, is l actually a lot less than the thousand dollars they were asking people at one point for the sedan. So listen, his marketing game is on point. Dagen its also refundable. You give them a hundred bucks and you can get your money back any time until you take delivery. Its not a contract. Dagen of the thing. The 200,000, there are 200,000 people willing to put down 100. Maria ah. Dagen musk also said they had thrown the steel ballthey threw the same steel ball at the window several times before the event and didnt scratch the glass. It might have weakened the glass. Maria the sledgehammer did. That makes sense. Dagen but its not a truck. Its not a pickup truck. You can call it that but its not a pickup truck. Not with that styling. I the back pops open. Millions are headed home for the holidays. Weve got a new survey which reveals some people cannot stand their families. Im storming out. No. No, no. There will be no storming this year, do you hear me . We are going to eat together as a family with no drama, understand . Maria oh, god. You according to a motel 6 poll, the average person can only tolerate their relatives for about four hours. One in four people report hiding to get some alone time. 20 said they worried about family members getting on their nerves, 18 hope the house wont be too loud or too busy. Despite this, 95 still believe its important to spend the holidays with family. Yes. [ laughter ] i love that conclusion. Even if you hate everyone, you still have to go. Thats pretty much my takeaway. I want to know how you ask the question. How do you say its three hours and 54 seconds until im done. Thats it. Sunday morning futures yesterday, with steve bannon, brilliant. That was the best interview ive seen from bannon ever, ever. Maria i like the whole premise that he put forth and that is, hey, its the kickoff to thanksgiving week, congress has gone back home to their districts, now theyre going to have to explain to their constituents what theyve been doing for the last such hell months. Yeah. But you were right on. I have to tell you, im going to be biased because i live you and i have such respect for you because ive known you so many years. On the way to church, im on the clock now, ive got to make 1 11 00 mass but i was so enthralled with sunday morning futures. Thanks for joining us on a m970. Id love to see those Trump Supporters come up with a Conspiracy Theory about a jewish billionaire with his own media company. Good luck making that stick. [ laughter ] maria joe, what did you sunshine. It was the best. It was the best sketch. I cant believe they took all the if you havent seen it, youve got to check out snl. That sketch. Fred armison was great as bloomberg. Woody harrison as joe biden, he owns biden right now. They put in fake teeth and theyre all white. Maya rudolph doing Kamala Harris and kate m mckinnon doing Elizabeth Warren with that delivery. Maria she nailed it. Rachel dratch, she came up and did amy klobuchar. The whole sketch was great. Will ferrell doing steyer just stole the show. Will ferrell is hysterical. He did the stare, the steyer stare, they wouldnt let it go. On politics, that was so funny, i like to see them go after the folks that should be gone after. Theres so much happening on the democratic side that is funny. Did you see the wizard of oz sketch, did you see Kate Mckinnon do judy garland. Maria i missed that. Ill go back. Whats funny is funny. Maria eddie murphy is slated to host the show on december 21st. You famously worked together. Do you plan on making an appearance. Between you and i, somebody called and said joe, will you go on, i would do anything for eddie. Right now, nothing is planned. How long it takes to get sick of families on thanksgiving 3 hours because people get triggered cant hear each other you were making a joke. Dagen zam people are not hearing breaching from left democrats about impeachment as we have been taking about the support for impeachment a has been falling in recent weeks also ongoing independents at the end of the day job security in this country strength of the economy, gas prices in check, Mortgage Rates lower, that is what people care about, do i feel safe financially. 31 districts weather trump won 2016, that actually have congress womenor congress mep running reelection in 1 districts. An issue this week trying to explain to constituents what theyve done for the people lately. You have got to think that the democrats won because of health care. That is what they won on that is what they ran what on have they put forward what have they done on health care since they took office . Nothing absolutely nothing people have that conversation, at the same time, there is a little bit of whole the boy who cried wolf every day a bombshell going to take him down this is going to be an the thing yet here we are. Maria no mention how they trade to frame him in 2016 ig report december 89 jane durham criminal investigation some effort to muddy waters with impeachment inquiry talking about that with hong kong that is on story hong kong election, residents voting with overwhelmingly in support of prodemocracy accounts overnight in hong kong won 85 seats for reflex the progovernment said netting 13 President Trump considering signing bill by hrz last week backs prodemocracy protesters, joining me director of center is for chinese strategy Michael Pillsbury thanks for joining me reaction to hong kong election, incredible 70 people came out to vote, to try to push back on chinas authoritarian rule. Very good news, its means sentment for autonomy democracy can be into Election Results my fear students would stay home boycott elections not want to use political process. That is wrong. I was wrong in my worry. This now opens up a couple possibilities maria one that carrie lam could decide to step down, and name a member of her cabinet to take her place, that is within the law of hong kong. Secondly, in the elections two years from now next chief executive will be chosen, probably somebody less wooden than carrie lam will be selected more in touch with political currents in hong kong both of those i think good news for our own public. Maria interesting to note Senate Legislation the senate bill, passed the house, overwhelmingly, where the u. S. Will tie chinas behavior in hong kong to ongoing trade business with the United States will the president sign that into law what do you think . I dont know i was watching carefully comments he still refers to president xi jinping as his friend we get guy all along second pompeo as well for nonviolent demonstrations same position xi jinping takes if he doesnt sign it becomes law after 10 days has break that the recess congress is on plus another 10 days, before he decides to sign it he could as gesture do xi jinping not sign it or be look like dragging his feet to help president xi jinping, i think we are in final stage now where these this first phase is going to work or not. I am kind of pessimistic i think the president likes to be tariff man idea of tariffs back on higher level still exists i am not complacent that we have final goal in sight, a major concessions china has to make. Maria i think i have been pointing out to our audience o dont forget when you hear things like oh u. S. Is considering taking tariffs off or not implementing the tariffs that are set to go into effect december 15, remember where that is coming from last week it was the south China Morning post, was acquired by Abu Bakr Albaghdadi jack ma who is admitted communist so lets remember where some info is coming from having said that michael, this morning, we have news that china Officials Say they will raise penalties on intellectuality property theft look into lowering punishment thresholds what do you think about that i so he can with Peter Navarro sunday morning futures yesterday president assistant to trade administering policy about false marketing from china finding its way into u. S. Homes watch this. A lot of counterfeit products from china right peter. Go on platform like amazon connects you to a web site in china, and the next thing you know, youve got a counterfeit good be over 90 stuff is brought on line that has apple brand is counterfeited not from apple source. The president is cracking down on counterfeits Peter Navarro wrote an articles for fox news. Com for audience to check out how much truth should we expect from this is china really getting off to on ip theft will president consider not putting tariff increases into effect a what is your take. I think tariff intreefgs increases possible a step forward if china wants to ray of pentz on ip theft they said they had a law to do just that the pentz quite small in cases if Company Losses a case Foreign Companies sues Chinese Company for property theft pessimisted as low as 5,000 they have to go a long way beyond what announced to appease accounts concern with intellectual property theft. Isnt it true though, that if the president were to sign that bill, into law, the chinese say we will we will retaliate, so i mean, you know, this is a high stakes game right here. That is right, i agree. Dont forget they could walk out of the talks. On friday, you in any way negotiator blushed 6,000 word article, lu liu he spoken to be reformer wants state control to continue state subsidies to continue for china state owned surpassed us Chinese Companies in other numerous than American Companies they have more billionaires the growth rate three times faster than us, so china is feeling its oats feels very strong they had Henry Kissinger over on friday with Gary Cohn Hank paulson got messages to tell President Trump not to do anything, to end the talks now and pull back tariffs. I dont think President Trump is going to pull back the tariffs. Without really serious concessions from china, as you mentioned maria, there is a false report on this, about a month ago, white house official still unknown, said oh yes first phase will definitely a have a majorroll back in tariffs. The president himself said that was false reporting he had not made such an agreement, so we have to be careful who we are listening to now in terms of where trade talks are. Maria why i pointing out alibaba owns south China Morning post last week. New york times also ran the story along with reuters. Came from white house, anonymous white house official and myself called around four newspapers said dont run this i understands from white house not true each four reporter told me no i have this on deep background from white house official Peter Navarro went on air said it is not true the president next day backed up Peter Navarro said it is not true that xts official is unknown he white house official is unknown that there was a rollback of tariffs deal as part of first phase really bad reporting. Somebody within white house wants to see this deal is putting things out there in media because, i thought chinese were doing that the isnt it interesting chinese get hank paulson, and gary cohn. Henry kissinger. Henry kissinger to listen to speech by chinese leadership that was a symbol as well. Well all funded by bloomberg, bloomberg took on Economic Forum so you have i tried empathize with chinese point of view they are thinging we have got prestigious americans hank paulson Henry Kissinger bloomberg they think joe biden is their friend why not hold on until elections a year from now much less precious from americans this is al something chinese have to consider shall we wait a year and be rid of President Trump frankly impeachment hearings have fed that point of view in china that were dealing with weak president wait a year i think chinese are wrong to think that is corrects but wrong to think that we cant miss articles in chinese prez to talk about this. Do you think we will get a deal . Ultimately, yes, the chinese are as president says, chinese desperate for a deal they are hurting but the question is maria, will the president have to raise tariffs higher he used the term substantially higher tariffs two uniques ago if chinese dont make further concessions. Thank you for having me. Thank you for joining us a lot to talk about your new book will get to that but first your take on about Michael Bloomberg entering the race. I should disclose Mike Bloomberg has been nice enough to have a tv show that i have on his network so i obviously, have biasses towards mike known him a long time a great philanthropist very talented we will see what happens i am not involved in politics anymore i work in white house with president carter i stay out of politics wish him the best. Interesting to see bloomberg entering the race has to be in some way an admission people out there right now are not going to take down donald trump, i mean you see out of the world you know ideas, like Elizabeth Warren, 2020 hopeful, doubling down on her war on wealthy spoke in New Hampshire over weekend got to get your reaction. Now, i know you are gonna be shocked to hear this, but there are some billionaires have taken exception to my wealth tax. Private equity has done great for our country made economy much better than it would have been private equity is investing money on behalf public Pension Funds doing really good getting good returns with them major public Pension Funds in this country increasing shares of money into private equity returns are very good schoolteachers firemen ploysmen benefiting i think good thing for country. Do you think people understand that the role of private equity the fact that private equity has in fact created all these jobs created all of this wealth with return you are talking about you are right i think private Equity Industry as industry has not been as communicate active on issues. We can also a improve demo doubt we can do better job trying to do a better job have to make sure people realize beneficiaries are people who invest with us tend to be pb Pension Funds. Do you think that the policies that are coming out of the far will have the group like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders would impact economy . If you ski taxes go way up not able to pay about medicare for all just raising on you top one percent we know that. Under our constitution tax laws are really done in congress have house of representatives initiates tax legacy i dont see in this case happening in the house right now likely to implement policies talked about in the democratic primaries eventually they may change views but right now i dont see anything like that happening in the congress. Umhmm, tailor swift recent spat with former manager could spell danger for private about equities in Music Industry what is your take on this, how like swift can but multimilliondollar dollars at risk she feels she wants tone you are her music play songs. Very talented artist enjoy her music dont know how this dispute is going to get resolved i think if parties come together hef a meaningful discussion will get resolved in am kabl way. A deal is a deal you do a contract acquire remove she says i dont have access to the things i created. That situation is in music business quite sometime so very few artists own their masters, that is not something that is new but in this case i think there will be a resolution some point i am hopeful that will happen. So many things pass your desk at Carlyle Group tell us what you see in terms of the growth in the economy, where the big, important investments are coming. U. S. Economy is in pretty good shape really testify to what you would expect 10 years into a growth cycle, 10 years into this normally reegs seven years dont think heading will grow 2 next year probable Something Like that opportunities for growth among other Things Health care, 20 gdp is now in health care when i worked in white house many years ago 7 . We are seeing a lot of growth in technology, of course, a lot of growth in financial services, so i think economy has a lot of strength to it. I guess within health care, technology is a big part too we are getting ahead of disease, robotics a. I. Has been important in terms of getting ahead of disease living longer. I hope they are living longer is a big thing would i like to live longer i hope they come up with something that will unable me to live a lot longer actually is happening average life in United States going up when 1900 average life expectation United States born in 1900 was 49. Now in early 80s, that probably will go up from there a good thing i think. Tell us about private equity the plans. When you put an investment in a company, what is your average time that you actually are in that Company Invested trying to change it make it better, so eventually there is an exit strategy. Typically private equity likes to hold assets four to six years sometimes might hold longer sometimes needs more work than 4 to 6 years, 4 to 6 years pretty good holding period. In order to get really he changing in effects changing, you want to make sure you have your hands on it the story today is spanish good giant backing down on deal to sell to carlyle over founding families role in the company according to New York Post this morning founding family wants to be involved that is something typically not the case tell me about that. Private equity typically buyout people like to control deals like 5 increasingly jiernt stake details this transaction was supposed to about controlled transaction turn buyout family changed position apparently last couple weeks so it wont go forward we are interested in buyouts Good Companies wanted to do that one rights now i think the family has a different position. So is that something that would case to you walk away not going to do a deal if family wants more control. When you need to change something have a controllered position you can do that a Minority Stake you cannot sometimes deals work when you have a Minority Stake in this case we thought a controlled position would be better. You are an incredible patriot i know that, about you for years, you have an incredible collection of historic things of our great country now a new book out american story conversations with master historians you speak with some of the most prominent scholars fundinging fathers, important temperature me about thebook. Stashthdz six years ago ag to provide members of congress more information about history than they might have had for last six as we are i would have doris cancekane goodwin i interview historian, about 18 put in book stayed on to give people a look about American History in a way not a textbook a history of america through interviews by leading historians. Why really an easy read because interviews. Interviews and some humor in it there is a lot of things i think people are interested in i interested the was able to interest, john roberts in going into it chief justice of United States i know him reasonably well from submitting sonson activities asked if he want to be chief just his hole life no, i did not want to do that a lawyer no. What did you want to be a historian father said you wont make money as historian father said do what you want john went to harvard mainland in history came back from spring break got in a cab cab driver said where do you want to go harvard. A student there yes. What are you mairjdz. History. Cabdriver said when i was student adharvard that is what i majored in also. So went to law school. Interesting stories designed to give people to know more about American History a look at American History through eyes of the greatest historians in our community. A great read when i look at it read areas probing back then, Thomas Jeffersons years there are some similarities to what is going on today there is no doubt that civil war was worse time in countrys history we killed 600,000 men and women during that period of time, but if you live that aweve had disputes type we have now throughout American History, so george washington, Thomas Jefferson time other times bitter disputes between congress and administration nothing unique we have now, we have only had impeachment a couple times but weve had many situations where the congress didnt get along i dont think that unique right now. What about dispute with china right now i know you thought about this a lot i think a lot of ceos out there, today, are so interested in getting their products in front of 1. 4 billion people in china they forgot to protect it about National Security issues around it where are we in terms of chinau. S. Story in your mind. I was in china on friday, when xi jinping met with a number americans including kissinger, hank paulson i was in that meeting i think chinese would like to do a detail i think americans would like a deal i think a deal will be annoyanceed noted zant future i spp before end of the year socalled phaseone deal i think something that will be positive for our country. It is interesting we could get a deal by the end of the year but this idea of National Security risk, how important is that to you . I know you want to see a deal, you want to see Global Business number one number two academies in the world economies in the world if not agreeing to not stealing ip what about that huawei. I am a patriot you are a patriot i dont want to do anything that is going to hurt our country of course. Those things have to be rod of i am not able to get all information about National Security aspects going on now clearly if president agrees too deal in this country i am sure will be protecting National Security i dont think a deal would be announced if not going to help National Security. Is there was a lot of symbolism in that meeting last week you were in the fact president xi there in audience Henry Kissinger Gary Cohn Hank paulson, do you see it that way symbolic to have are the somewhatest people including yourself in United States in china. I wouldnt say say i am one of the smartest there was a conference there bloom broome helped organize xi jinping is very talented person took questions from Henry Kissinger paulson other people from other countries as well he went through each of them addressed them made it clear he would like to see a transaction done, but on terms that are about favorable and not in a way that is going to lead to further disputes he doesnt think that a deal should be done just to have a sake of a deal made it clear he wants a deal but fair and balanced. Do you believe him . I dont know him that well i would say i dont think chinese want a deal embarrassing to them xi jinping needs a deal to sell to his people as well when a deal is announcing i dont think either said should say greatest of all time for our people i think both sides should say a fair deal for both sides. We have breaking news right now, on ebay, i want to bring to you, case fox business is reporting that another possible deal on this merger deal to some stubhub could be announced etch bay owned stub huh since 2007 when it acquired business 310 Million Dollars what does it feel like you to in terms of deal flow the a lot of details happening day records lvmh, schwab Td Ameritrade does that tell you anything where we are in terms of transactions. I think economy in good shape should see is a fair number going done i am a personal deal in viagogosuspicious will probable goford. Why smart for ebay to sell. It ebay has been under challenge there have been activists in the stock they have suggested that stubhub be sold i suspect that is probably what is going to happen has not been formally announced i suspect that is going to happen i think auction has been run i suspect some deal will get done. Maria frozen ii brought in 127 Million Dollars Opening Weekend u. S. And canada. Meanwhile, he is in, former new york city mayor about Michael Bloomberg officially enters 2020 race for president joining me stuart tourist to weigh in good morning. Fascinating yes good morning, i think bloomberg entry into this race it is now official that splits the party, every which way. I think ironic, that this is the party that hates billionaires but going to be run probably represented by billionaire Going Forward almost delicious i dont know whether bloomberg can win nomination but certainly going to have an enormous impact on the party, by splitting it right in two, he is the moderate guy just beaten joe biden, he is not the socialist goodbye Warren Sanders a totally split party i think long run that helps President Trump i dont see how it i could not help trump given this scenario Going Forward. Interesting Bernie Sanders, a couple months ago said there should be no billionaires in america, i mean that has to be i was so struck by that comment today there are more billionaires in china than america, so does he want all billionaires to go to china to europe . It is so crazy. How will warren and sanders voters react to bloomberg . If bloop ploom comes through looks like winning will they vote for him i just cant see it. Opened up bwi three years ago another San Francisco terminal two couple months looking to expand to many Airport Agency week the goal do have 30 or 40 places spread around five to 10 years. How how long does your Research Show that people need a layover to take advantage of this or how are they using the gym . Really depends on whether people are balance more for the southwest side the hub, or our case in de connector everybody else, and International Flights so most of our users about 60 to 70 use it before first flight they want to avoid rush hour to get to the airport early, for that International Travel and people coming to dwi early as we look at San Francisco, being in terminal 2 spp more using it during layover experience. Does that customers. Airports adding food options yoga gymnasium a manicure is governments deciding if you can get a foothold in some airports. Very good question, very complicated, so in u. S. Most airports are government controlled so they are actually our first customer we have to convince them wellness better option should not be putting another restaurant or bar you know quick serve coffee joint but convince them that wellness is something that needs to happen. Then after that, there is a Concession Group that is usually run by the airport, there might be a prime in there a developer like westfield hms, those guys then make the next decision so we have to please several customers before we can get to that end user the person flying through the airport.
