In a place called Kapuskasing, Ontario, General Motors operates a major cold-weather testing center, used as a part of their global toolkit of engineering and development centers around the world. A 9-hour drive north from Toronto, Kapuskasing is surrounded by the wilderness of Northern Ontario, and blessed with something that cold-weather test engineers love: lots of frigid temperatures.
This cold weather testing center plays a major role in GM’s global product lineup, and is home to a team of engineers, test drivers, and all manner of advanced equipment deployed to hunt down and neutralize problems caused by extreme cold, before a given vehicle ever goes into production.
