We have issues of public safety. Earlier today, Felipe Cuevas sat at the marriot in oakland working with a mediator trying to figure out a 2 Year Contract with the city of oakland for some 3000 workers. Cuevas. The first year is worked out, but not the second yearfed up workers walked off the job two weeks ago they have been working without a contract since july1st. For 7 days, they marched and held rallies. As negotiations failed a mediator was brought in. This morning for several hours city officials and Union Representatives met at the marriort in downtown oakland. Cuevas. It is going well, we dont have anything yet, but we are hopeful. As for the workers, many say they are glad to be back to work taking care of the city they love they just hope a contract is signed sooner rather than later and they dont back on strike. Cuevas. City officals are in a closed door meeting now it is possible they could come back with an agreement the mediator is on standby and so are Union Representatives te vicki happening now. Police in the east bay are looking for three people who stabbed a man and assaulted a woman outside the hayward bart station. The attack happened around 9 30 last night. Police say the three assailants stabbed the man and punched the woman. Both victims are expected to be okay. Police do not have a detailed description of the attackers. grant we are now learning the identities of the father and son who drowned near Goat Rock Beach in Sonoma County. 31yearold Omar Hernandez and his son. Sixyearold axel medina died last night. The two are both from santa rosa. Coast guard Officials Say they were playing in the water when a big wave swept the child into the ocean. The father went after the child. But also got caught in the waves. Helicopter crews spent hours recovering the victims bodies as family members watched. Unfortunately, the father died at the beach. And the son died at the hospital. A second son was able to make it back to the beach. vicki a four yearold boy from redwood city died after being found in a hot tub at a resort in lake tahoe. It happened at the montblue resort yesterday afternoon. Deputies arrived and performed cpr. He was taken to the hospital and died. Police say the death is being investigated as an accidental drowning. His name has not been immediately released. grant in national news. Operations at atlantas hartsfieldjackson airport are resuming after a power outage brought it to a stand still. The problems started at around one pm yesterday. More than 11hundred flight were cancelled. Travellers at the Atlanta Airport were forced to sit in the dark for hours. Waiting for the power to be restored. Atlantas mayor says the cause of the fire isnt yet known, but theres no indication that it was deliberate. vicki happening now. The Sonoma County Sheriffs Office is warning people about a phone scam. They say a caller claims they have a warrant and will arrest the person if they dont pay a fine. The victim is told to purchase a Prepaid Debit Card and give the card information to the caller so they can collect the money. This scam is targeting the elderly. The suspects use hidden numbers. Most calling from outside california and even outside the country. vicki fire crews in Southern California are hoping to take advantage of a twoday window of calmer winds to better fight a massive wildfire. The thomas fire broke out two weeks ago and is still threatening thousands of homes in Santa Barbara and ventura county. It has burned over 270thousand acres and is 45percent contained. Two people have died including a firefighter. Fire Officials Say cooler temperatures and light winds will be critical for firefighters in making progress. Gusty winds are expected to come back wednesday. Evacuations orders are still in effect for Santa Barbara county. Pio we were able to do prepping in these areas days before to allow the fire to burn around back, burn around some of these homes, we were able to fire out some of them. The thomas fire has destroyed more than sevenhundred homes. grant a truck driver died while working in a fire debris dump in the north bay. 60yearold ezekiel summer junior died friday at the Sonoma County central landfill near petaluma. Authorities say he was hit by his truck and was found on top of a compost pile he was working for a company that is removing debris from the north bay wildfires. The chp is currently investigating the incident. vicki San Franciscos aquatic park will remain closed through wednesday. grant this comes after two sea lion attacks closed the park to swimmers late last week. The second sent a swimmer to a trauma center. Marine experts tell kron4 these incidents are rare. They say there have been lots of sea lions and swimmers near pier 39 over the years but less than a dozen bites in the last three yearsand certainly not severe bites like the ones we saw the last couple of days. The man bit at aquatic park in San Francisco on friday morning suffered nonlife threatening injuries but was taken to a trauma center. The victim on thursday afternoon was bitten on the arm and was taken to the hospital with a serious injury. Marine experts say sea lions are cute, but they are wild animals. They say they can be territorial and will protect themselves if they feel threatened. Or its possible the animals could have simply been curious. Rob . rob live all of these fires, including a dozen in one night, began back on december 9th and have been occurring along the on and off ramps to 680 between berryessa and hostetter avenue near the milpitas border. Someone from one of the many homeless camps around here may be to blame and neifghbors are very concerned given how dry the vegetation is. A suspected firebug has san jose firefighters scrambling in recent weeks. The latest in a string of suspicious fires broke out abut 1 a. M. Sunday between some trees and shrubs and a sound wall along the i680 off ramp to capitol avenue. This concerned resident lives on the other side of that sound wall. Roy lives near fire. The flames were as high as the roof tops, we were worried the fire might blow into our neighborhood and burn our homes. So far there have been least twenty such fires in the area, stretching from near tully road to the milpitas border, mostly in North San Jose along 680 near berryessa and capitolavenue and near hostetter road. Almost all are thought to have been intentionally set. Several have occurred in or near the many homeless camps that are to be found here. Offficer edgar vega chp. We have not made any arrests but we suspect there is a connection with the homeless camp is the area. The fires have been relatively small, consuming brush, dry grass, tarps and trash but the vegetation and trees are extremely dry and firefighters say such a fire could easily spreadinto the largely urban neighborhoods and Business Districts that are just off the i680corridor. A federal Appeals Court judge in San Francisco is retiring amid Sexual Harassment allegations. Judge Alex Kozinski of the ninth Circuit Court made the announcement today. A total of 15 women claimed kozinski made sexual comments or showed them pornography and in some cases kissed or groped them. Most of the women were law clerks or student interns at the time at the time of the alleged misconduct. Two were a professor and a judge when they claimed to have been touched or groped. Kozinski released a statement apologizing. He was appointed to the court in 19 85. And at the time was the youngest federal Appeals Court judge in the nation. grant pbs host tavis smiley says that the network made a big mistake in suspending himafter he was accused of sexual harrassment on the job. But it wasnt long before pbs fired back. His career took a huge hit last week, when the network took action afteran independent investigation by a law firm. The San Francisco spca has pulled the plug on its security robot pilot program. It was being used to curb crime and vandalism associated with the numerous homeless encampments in the area. Although it was working, kron4s Maureen Kelly reports that the non profit shut it down because theyd received threats over their use of the machine. To some. The egg like orb seemed cute. To others, onimous. The spca called it k9 and at first used to patrol its entire campus on 16th and alabama. But the city hit them with a cease and desist letter, after which the bot stuck to the parking lot. The 3 month Pilot Project was launched because the non profit said the car break ins, needles and scary encounters associated the numerous homeless encampments in their area had gotten so bad that they were losing staff, and their volunteers couldnt even walk the dogs for adoption around the facitiy. But then k9 because a crime victim. Someone pushed it over, and smeared bbq sauce on its sensors and put a tarp over it. The spca says after news stories of the Crime Fighting robot went viral,theyve received hundreds of messages inciting violence and vandalism to their facility, encouraging people to take retrobution. Theyve had two acts of vandalism here at their campus last week that they believe is related. Those working or visiting the Animal Hospital and shelter say they dont understand the outrage. Again i never saw the robot is a threat i thought improve security and it just reminded me of r2d2 so i always thought it was cute to have i dont see why it would be considered a threatone client says she isnt sure the security bot is the way to go, but used to work her herself and says security is an issue. It happened saturday around 5 pm on twin peaks boulevard. The victim was taking photos when two men approached him from behind. Police say one suspect pulled out a knife and demanded the mans bag that had his camera equipment, cell phone and wallet. The robbers then ran off. This area is the site of a number of other thefts. A suspected firebug has san jose firefighters scrambling in recent weeks. The latest in a string of suspicious fires broke out abut 1 a. M. Sunday between some trees and shrubs and a sound wall along the i680 off ramp to capitol avenue. This concerned resident lives on the other side of that sound wall. Roy lives near fire. The flames were as high as the roof tops, we were worried the fire might blow into our neighborhood and burn our homes. So far there have been least twenty such fires in the area, stretching from near tully road to the milpitas border, mostly in North San Jose along 680 near berryessa and capitolavenue and near hostetter road. Almost all are thought to have been intentionally set. Several have occurred in or near the many homeless camps that are to be found here. Offficer edgar vega chp. We have not made any arrests but we suspect there is a connection with the homeless camp is the area. The fires have been relatively small, consuming brush, dry grass, tarps and trash but the vegetation and trees are extremely dry and firefighters say such a fire could easily spreadinto the largely urban neighborhoods and Business Districts that are just off the i680corridor. It may be cold but we can still have some big wild fires. The chp says the fires are a potential hazard for passing motorists as well. Weve got cars everywhere and down onto the highway. Multiple people are reported dead on an amtrak passenger train, en route from seattle to portland, derailed in Pierce County, washington. In addition to the train victims, several motorists were injured as they passed through the overpass on interstate 5, as one train car dangled above. Both died after strong currents swept them to their deaths on Goat Rock Beach in Sonoma County. 31yearold Omar Hernandez and his son. Axel medina. Died last night. They are both from santa rosa. Coast guard Officials Say, they were playing in the water,when a big wave swept the child into the ocean. The father went after the boy. But also got caught in the waves. Helicopter crews spent hours recovering the victims bodies, as family members watched. Unfortunately, the father died at the beach. And the son died at the hospital. A second son was able to make it back to the beach. pam a four year old boy died. After being found in a resort hot tub in lake tahoe. Douglas county sheriffs got the call about the boy sunday afternoon. It was at the montbleu resort casino and spa. When they arrived. They found the boy and did c p r. But he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Deputies say, this is being investigated as an accidental drowning. It happened just before 2 am on webster street in the japantown neighborhood. The victim was in his home when he heard gun shots outside he then realized he had been hit in the leg. No suspect information was immediately available from police. steve a man was held up with a knife at twin peaks for his camera equipment. The robbers are still on the loose tonight. It happened saturday around 5 pm on twin peaks boulevard. The victim was taking photos when two men approached him from behind. Police say one suspect pulled out a knife and demanded the mans bag that had his camera equipment, cell phone and wallet. The robbers then ran off. This area is the site of a number of other thefts. One that ended in death. Police have not yet released a description of the suspects. pam the San Francisco spca says. It has been targeted with hundreds of messages inciting violence and vandalism. The spca resorted this high Tech Solution because of the crime, needles and scary encounters associateld with the homeless encampments in the area of their Mission District facility. It got so bad for a time they stopped walking the adoptable dogs outside. The non profit turned to this 6 dollar an hour high Tech Solution. Which appeared to be working. So she went toward around the parking lot i just felt it was safer especially with car breakins. I was actually sad to see it go it was kind of cute but the idea of a robot routing homeless encampements fueled social media outrage and flooded the Animal Adoption Agency with threats. The robot was vandalized once, the faciltiy twice. The non profit was also hit with a seize and desist letter by the city. In the begining. Was sentenced today to three years of probation vo Cicely Hanson pleaded no contest to two counts of illegal posession for sale of an endangered species. Hanson is the owner of decades of fashion.
