Well good morning marty and robin good morning, everybody and now we can see from the sutro shot to quite over the bay were seeing a bit of the way of fog going on this morning those be a morning phenomena that will mix up very nicely course today, theres a shot from u c berkeley we can see the fog kind of hovering around the east bay shoreline a little bit in the Golden Gate Bridge. We were talking about as we went to break also dealing with this addiction fog scenario, we have little bit of an onshore wind that and play some leftover from yesterday and our new high has to reposition itself. So well have a little bit the way some breezy conditions later today to citizen show your future cast for theres the fog covering the peninsula coast down to San Francisco in the east bay shoreline. But in a few hours you can see the specs is out for a nicely its going to be back again tomorrow morning, a however will be just a morning phenomenons like to linger with the overcast sky conditions kind of thing. So heres a look at those winds that we do have going on they do build later today and they stay with us into the evening hours again its the height, its repositioning itself to the right location to give us another heat spike thats due to get your bike tuesday. They see about 7 oclock the winds quite active and they remain active until late tonight tomorrow penetrating all the way into the east bay valleys by tomorrow morning will still be a little bit of a breeze looked over so that will be nocturnal winds for us too. So a future cast for of the marine layer, what it does to kind of pull say its a little bit goes away for the day. And again overnight it will greet us tomorrow morning with fog as you can see along the peninsula down the Santa Cruz Mountains of touch, although does all that mean a monterey bay is impacted as much as like what we are and then again mixing out nicely for sunny skies and then by tuesday. Thats what really watching temperatures to really paths thats what going to be clark lining the most it looks like. So look ahead were talking mostly sunny and mild today, breezy with those gusts to 20 to 30 and tomorrow not as windy for the balance of the day little breezy in the morning, mostly sunny warming temps will be bumped up a few. The next week temperatures reached their zenith at the top about tuesday, cooling onward and friday saturday, maybe in the north bay might pick up a little sprinkle some of the models are kind of getting that that the key issue is were going to spend all of the week really cooling down significantly by next weekend today, 65 San Francisco, everybody else into the 70s, 70 per oakland 77 san jose essentially mostly sunny skies over the region and across the Wider Perspective here we have some lower 80s in place for the delta looks like santa rosa 81. But most in the regions will stay in the 70s for today again expecting that to be bumped up a little bit as we get into monday and particularly by tuesday well be covering all the more the at bat in the 4 zone forecast coming up for you in just a bit robin. People living in San Franciscos Mission District can get free coronavirus testing the city partnered with ucsf are free testing after the mission reported the highest number of covid19 cases in the city. So here are the 4 testing site so you can go to take a look at your screen. There are Garfield Park park in ninos Leonard FlynnElementary School and cesar chavez Elementary School. There are 2 types of tests one to see if someone is actively infected with the virus. The other test to verify if someone had previously been affected and has developed antibodies against the virus anyone over the age of 4 is eligible regardless of symptoms you can find a link to register for the coronavirus testing on our website just go to kron 4 dot com. And in the east bay happening tomorrow, a drivethru testing side will open in Pleasanton Stanford health care will be running the site at the Alameda County fairgrounds this is monday through friday from 09 00am to 05 00pm. The site is for People Living in Pleasanton Livermore and a plan you do not need an appointment for this one or a doctors order to get tested. But you still have to show at least one of the coronavirus related sepp symptoms so keep that in mind to access the testing site you just enter through the fairgrounds skate gate 12 which is located just off a valley avenue. The fdas authorizing 3 new coronavirus Antibody Test which can indicate of some one is immune to re infection. Now this will bring the number of approved test to 7. But this kind of fda authorization carries a lower regulatory standard because its you emergencyuse standards that means that the benefits could out rain well weigh the risks, but the test do carry the possibility of false positives and negatives. It also remains unclear whether antibodies indicate that someone is in fact immune to re infection. Organization says there is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from covid19 have antibodies to protect them. From a second infection, some governments were even considering issuing socalled immunity passports that would allow people to have who have already tested positive for the virus to return to work or to even travel. But the w h o says that for now theres not enough research to support that possibility. For the first time doctors at ucsf used a new type of plasma transfusion to treat a critically ill coronavirus patient. They do it by using donor antibodies from a patient who successfully recovered from covid19 kron fours noelle bellow has more. Theres a spectrum. Symptoms and the population so spectrum of probability of whether or not youre going to develop. The good on the body doctor, peter chan, hong with ucsf says treating Infectious Disease patients with plasma using donor antibodies isnt a new concept. It was used during treatment of patients with polio and more recently those with sars and mers but that doesnt mean its any less special during this crisis is the first case has a lot symbolic meaning of course that up but more importantly to me it gives us a sense of how the system works and how we can do this for many more patients, this was the first covid19 plasma transfusion at ucsf but it has been done at hospitals around the world during this pandemic we use peoples bodies which are like a fighting army. I mean fuse it into people who want to say can do having developed these antibodies or get fighters yet. Doctor chan hong says doctors at ucsf are working closely with the red cross and other blood banks to increase donations so other patients can benefit. He says though just because you had coronavirus doesnt necessarily mean youre plasma would be helpful and body tests saying its kind of an interesting situation where. The sicker you are the more likely you are able to probably be i would do in a bid to nursery and how these good out of bodies in years. People in my sentence probably wouldnt have enough antibodies. He says having this treatment as an option is another reason more testing is needed across the country again i wish we had more to say so then we would know who would potentially be eligible. And i think at the scene the beginning were going to try get the system up and running noelle bellow kron 4 news. Other than pat there so right robin, well, still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news, its mandatory in some states including here in california to wear masks in public. Coming up were going to get expert advice on which ones work best and wind. Before that though well take a live look outside foggy conditions at the Golden Gate Bridge this morning. Its going to clear but when last dave spah a total number of covid19 infections in the u. S. Is now at over 2 million with the number of deaths nearing 203,000 youre taking a look at a live interactive map by john hopkins Johns Hopkins university, where researchers are tracking coronavirus cases around the world, new york state has the highest number of cases and deaths in the country. California ranks 4th. Well much of the attention this weekend is on a handful of states that have opted to relax coronavirus restrictions and open up some businesses but other states see their battles thats far from over. The World Health Organization is warning that having coronavirus once does not necessarily mean youre immune from getting it again. Karen caifa has the latest now from washington d c. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says his skates curve is flattening but they can not let up. We need to see more progress and more slowing before we can begin implementing any effort to get ourselves on the road to the new normal the states death toll second only to neighboring new york added 250 people topping 5800 on saturday. As a handful of states like georgia reopened businesses this weekend. Others are crucial points and their fights like massachusetts, we are and what weve referred to as the search here in massachusetts the state of illinois says at least 2600 of their Health Care Workers have tested positive for coronavirus so far. Kentucky governor andy bashir will allow a gradual reopening in the healthcare sector monday. We end up with more economic damage new yorks current restrictions run until may 15th Governor Andrew Cuomo acknowledges the 7 weeks of limitations so far have been difficult but said they are worth it may be the life you saved is not your own. You still saved a life. And thats not a bad way to spend one day or 56 states. The White House Coronavirus task force meanwhile met on saturday but did not hold a public briefing. In washington, im karen caifa. A Poison Centers all around the country are reporting an uptick in calls following the President Trumps comments on thursday. About ingesting disinfectant as a possible treatment for coronavirus President Trump has since walked back on his words saying that he was making a sarcastic comment. But a local medical professor says this is not something to joke about. You inject its injecting it is far worse because the bloodstream becomes a highway to take this toxic material over your body when you ingest it is a local effect which is destroying the mucosa in that particular area. Well a number of states have reported an increase in calls to Poison Control Centers, the Public Health director in illinois says that people have actually been treated for gargling with bleach to kill germs and using detergent as a fine, its friends please dont do that folks the Poison Control Center in maryland was swamped with at least 100 calls about consuming a disinfectant. Well saturday, the president retweeted a post from the centers for Disease Control that said quote household cleaners and disinfectants can cause Health Problems when not used properly. The white house has not announced when the next briefing will be. It has been 3 weeks since the cdc urged all americans to wear masks in public, but only a handful of states have actually made it mandatory doctor sanjay gupta explains what some ask work best and why. Now that we know about 25 to 50 of people are spreading asymptomatic lee. We suggested people work last facial coverings while the white house recommends we wear face masks in public. Some states around the country have started making that mandatory i signed an executive order. Which will require the wearing of masks or face coverings when inside any retail establishments, many are left wondering. Which mask offers the best protection. Now when we talk about face coverings there are the surgical masks i wear in the hospital to protect patients from my own germs and avoid any splashes. And then there are the n 95 respirator masks that must be fit tested in order to protect Health Care Workers during certain procedures. Its the only one of these masks that prevents most very small particles from getting in when used properly. We need to keep those masks in their hands. Then there are the disposable cloth masks which you can buy in a store and online they are made for surgery or for hospitals but are also widely used. The cdc has recommended that we all wear cloth face masks like this one my daughter made this one. When we go out in public and we cant physically distance from each other keep in mind the reason is not so much to protect ourselves. But to protect others from us. It should come as no surprise that these medical grade masks are more effective, but that doesnt mean we should dismiss the benefit of cloth masks let me show you take a look at this experiment done by researchers at the National Institutes of health. They use lasers to help show how far spit droplets traveled through the air when we talk spit watch how far those green dots go when he speaks this have without the lasers these droplets might be invisible to the naked eye. But now with the cloth. We barely see anything its haitians come out in the form of the gas and the wearing of masks therefore could be even if theyre not high grade a way to contain a range of that lydia reba is a professor at mit who studies the physics behind how diseases spread through coughing, sneezing and breathing news which had hans momentum can then help these drops reach distances of up to 8 meters 26 feet call so second in line in terms of their momentum and that you can basically been dropped to 16 to 19 feet in the next generations and 3rd in line and bring drops further to the source around 6 . If you can see now why wearing a mask in addition to physical distancing. Is so important your germs can travel far we also want to make sure that that mask is also clean right so that it doesnt also become a source of secondary contaminations. And you dont have to be a whiz with the sewing machine like my daughter tshirt or a bandanna will do a new alternately its about having some form of barrier with multiple layers saturday. And arent you glad everyone would know where a mascot would really have a significant effect on reducing the risk of spreading covid19. Our washington dc correspondent alexandra le mon reports that some members of congress think it will be a long road to recovery. That will rule will require even more federal aid. But even after approving an additional billion in aid for Small Businesses hospitals and testing lawmakers acknowledge it will be a long road to recover from the Economic Impact of the pandemic state and local governments say theyre still waiting for help. But Republican SenateMajority Leader Mitch Mcconnell says Congress Needs to be cautious and also take a load. How much does we write a in a radio interview wednesday mcconnell suggested that allows states to file for bankruptcy would be better than borrowing more money at the federal level all states are losing huge sums of tax revenue needed to pay for police fire and other essential services and they are our heroes right now so i dont know what mitch is thinking but thats totally irresponsible so far congress has approved nearly trillion in aid and its absolutely clear that more help is going to be needed with unemployment. Insurance new mexico representative Ben Ray Lujan and deb haaland say people are in dire need we would like to an influx to snap benefits democrats also want more money for the post office. And for expanding world broadband so americans can have access to tell of medicine and tell a learning now and if a second wave of covid19 cases arrives in the fall in washington alexandra le mon. The temptation to lay out and catch some rays drew plenty to Lafayette Park as well. However, the clustering was a bit concerning for some its a little bit of a bummer to me to see all these people come together. Would call that socialdistancing geoff thomas went out for a walk with his dog. He thinks park goers can do better i wish more people would just follow the rules including wearing the mask as San Francisco mayor london breed has warned the shelterinplace may be extended past may 3rd the possibility of another 3 weeks inside doesnt sound great as some are creeps closer and a small apartment San Francisco. Its been burned off that its not a lot of space Scott Schwartz and his friends have observed most parkgoers following the rules he believes its because no one wants this to last longer than it has to by and large. You can tell that people just by looking at the groups theyre trying to do what they can to follow the rules. San franciscos Police Department says they want people to enjoy city parks, however they will be out reminding people to follow the shelterinplace orders so far no information has been given by sfpd about citations or possible arrests for those who have been violating shelterinplace orders. We have been dealing with a nice run here of beautiful sunny weather, a warm temperatures as well. What about today. Well not as weve cooled off a little bit just for the weekend but were going to snap back really early into next weekend. Its going to be mild enough this pretty pleasant and so forth the only little wrinkle will be some breezy conditions. Late afternoon and the evening overnight to make note of this is repositioning of our weather players here, heres a shot from u c berkeley to show you the progress of the fog thats eroding were literally evaporating away there you have it from u c berkeley swing of things are out of the golden gate well theres some more work needs to be done here, however, this will not be the overcast fog sticking around parts of the bay light as it does sometimes all afternoon speaking of which the progress even shows up here nicely this again mixing up within the next couple of hours and its done now its going to be back again tomorrow morning make no mistake in covering a good portion of the perimeter of the bay but again will make sell for monday afternoon. So future cast wind gusts going for what this turnos statements are anything but to make note of this by the Late Afternoon. There you see a building now you do get inland heating that helps tried this, but its the high thats repositioning itself, providing that on shore wind which after 8 oclock look how it lingers and covers a lot of the inland valleys to all the way to tomorrow morning so it could be kind of breezy in spots. Throughout this evening. And overnight you can pretty much expect. Future cast for as far as that marine layer snapping back. Yeah it will do so by tonight. It looks like a very early tomorrow morning you can see green us again with karl the fog again mixing out by the afternoon as we go into mostly sunny mode and by this point the High Pressure is now becoming overhead and even though the fog will return in spots like tuesday morning. Weve got that high anchored in the right spot to provide some nice warming coming across our way so mostly sunny and mild. Breezy with those wind gusts of 20 to 30 particularly Late Afternoon overnight. Tomorrow, not as windy mostly sunny post mixing the fog out warming up a little bit for those temperatures that you asked about that will get into the 80s over more territory. Now it looks like were going to reach are seen on tuesday. And its possible some inland spots might reach about 90, but will say the upper 80s for good piece of real estate inland calling on words for the remainder of the week and i do mean returning into the 70s and even lower 70s by the end of the week and as we approach into next weekend with perhaps a sprinkle up in the north bay thats a maybe 65 San Francisco will be a kind of a mostly Sunny Afternoon 70 going on for oakland in san jose checks in at 77. Heres the Wider Perspective of those highs who got the lower 80s make and some real estate coverage 78 for now up and 74 77 going on for livermore but again well see more 80s on tap for tomorrow and certainly by tuesday as well so well get a little flavor summer coming our way by tuesday. But then cooling off again for the remainder of the week robin. All right. Thank you. Every day for ppe with the federal stockpile depleted and demand outstripping supply Trump Administration set up a partnership with private u. S. Companies to bring in supplies from the global market. Fema is working with these companies to large project airbridge to expedite the movement of critical supplies according to fema project airbridge has brought in millions of masks gowns and gloves to the u. S. , its coming from countries like china and honduras fema says its going to prioritize hot spots despite our repeated requests for specifics on the final destination of these overseas supplies. Fema has not released those a fema is paying 750,000 on average to charter a flight of the supplies secured by u. S. Companies into the u. S. And then our agreement. With the federal government stipulates that. Half of the supplies at least have the supplies that are brought in to project an air bridge. Indigo did fema designated hot spots, but its the 6 Companies Including medline working with the government to decide which of their Clients Health systems if the other half of the desperately needed supplies whenever a customer. Typically orders will get a percentage of that based on the inventory that we have available. So by doing that it ensures that you know one of our larger is able to get product but also some of our smaller customers as well medline says that project airbridge has accelerated delivery to areas in illinois, new york michigan louisiana, massachusetts and florida all on the list of prioritize hotspots established by fema and hhs its a dynamic lists its its growing its changing Senate Democrats are now raising concerns demanding to ensure that the companies are not sending supplies. According to the highest bidder instead of greatest need are you profiting. Because of this partnership i think one of the misconceptions out there is that a company like ours is somehow going gangbusters. At the expense of this virus that could be further from the truth. Prices have gone up for not passing any of those. Costs on to our customers but states governors in crisis necessarily applauding the federal government or project airbridge across the board so what theyre taking credit for the white house is that the distributors have customers in illinois that theyre sending goods too because those customers ordered. Those items of ppe so thats a far cry from delivering to the states so that we can distribute. The cdc has guidelines on how hospitals battling covid19 should handle the shortage of ppe and a supply crisis that recommends reusing mask wearing them past their expiration dates and also prioritizing them for certain circumstances. Theres no question about it. Well most of the Nursing Homes in california and around the country were understaffed in the first place secondly if theres any kind of outbreak it all everybody should be tested. You cant use Nursing Homes as a backup for due Care Hospitals because they are incubators for this disease. Well hear some of the recommendations mcginnis recommends that the state consider they include monitoring positive patients daily ensuring sufficient staffing and employing a complaints system earlier this month governor newson said that he laid out new strategies and plans to protect seniors in Nursing Homes. Its unclear if you included any of these in the recommendations. Graduating nurses want to help with the coronavirus pandemic but theyre having a tough time finding work. This despite Governor Newsome calling for more nurses, both retired and students to work on the front lines of covid19 kron fours gayle ong has more. Williams was recently working as an r and and cosmetic dermatology but was let go due to shelterinplace orders after hearing governor Gavin Newsoms plea for more nurses on the front lines of covid19 she wanted to take care of people immediately. But the application process has been challenging it could be that you dont have the exact specialty that theyre looking for. Or mostly you dont have Hospital Experience acute care experience. Catherine hughes is an rn and director of the Nurse Alliance s e i u and history should be stepping up and hiring more nurses. And the nurses at this point because. They cant do Something Else they dont necessarily have to work directly in the intensive care unit right away john your health initially considered nursing students and plan for a surge. But turns out there is no demand and a low turnover rate we only because a lot of the shelter in place that we all got it which recall what that has created is just a walk out on number of patients that were dealing with the hospitals right now Michelle Lopes is a Senior Vice President and chief Nurse Executive at john muir. Nichols says said talking with other nurses helps her cope with the stress of work every day she also adds that tester now quicker than before for personal protective equipment is still an issue that the nurses are dealing with there and have to deal with every day. And the fda is authorizing 3 new coronavirus Antibody Tests which can indicate if someone is immune to re infection. Now this brings the total number of approved test to 7. But this type of fda authorization carries a lower regulatory standard because its under emergency eu standards and that means while the benefits will outweigh the risks that asked do carry the possibility of false positives and false negatives. It also remains unclear whether antibodies indicate that someone is in fact immune to re infection. While donor antibodies may be effective to help those fighting the disease the World Health Organization says there is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from covid19 have antibodies that protect them from a second infection. Some governments were even considering issuing a socalled immunity passport that would allow people who have already tested positive for the virus to return to work or even travel but the w h o says that for now theres not enough research to support that possibility. Well coming up on kron 4 news weekend the nba getting ready to reopen practices, yeah, but it doesnt mean the nbas any closer to returning for games. Well have that after the break. But first well take a live look outside. Nice and easy at the bay bridge toll plaza remember you just go on through youll get a bill later well be right back. Good morning, were back on kron 4 news weekend. The you can see in that shot still hanging over parts of San Francisco. As far as here to tell us more about the fog and when karl is going to get on out of here. Hey good morning marty and robin good morning, everybody looks like the fog still a pretty nice job at least from some of the imagery were looking for as the sun started peer through just a little bit. The shot we can see the east bay shoreline nicely from u c berkeley know we started the day today this was completely fall that you can barely see anything but that somebody get just came out of a shower. We have some work to do here of course the golden gate, its always a little tough spot here. But you can see that it start to peer through just a little bit off to the distance so it is improving here. But on that note a fog a little leftover fog that we have will be clearing most of the region that seems to hint here by the afternoon even places like point re and Half Moon Bay will be cleared out, but we still may have some layers there but for the bay area just give it another hour or 2. Now thats part a bit part b of the story is today with all the sunshine temperatures go on a nice job and so forth. Ok, however, late this afternoon and this evening. Here come some wins and theyre going to be around it looks like for all the overnight here its an onshore wind is the high starts to reposition itself. The right location to get the maximum warmth. There you have it goes on overnight and some of the east bay valleys of looks like and not Contra Costa County and alameda counties, mike it someones going on there in the late overnight and by tomorrow morning once the fog will join us yet again. Look at future cast for here not a whole lot to see but the fog does return a little bit overnight to greet us for a monday morning. Again should mix out for the afternoon as we start to get into tuesday. This is what were really looking at some warmth starting to happen here. Its the maximum impact from this High Pressure cell. So for today, weve got mostly sunny and mild but breezy wind gusts of 20 to 30 and it will be probably be talking here by the Late Afternoon source, a post 3 oclock and for the overnight. Then tomorrow not as windy as we get to the balance of the day mostly sunny and warming temperatures will be up a few and then as we get into next week it looks like temperatures reach their top on tuesday and continue to drop all week long might even see a sprinkle of parts of the north a there thats a question mark there. For today, lets go 65 San Francisco, some scattered clouds lingering 70 for oakland, 77 san jose. And across the wider bay here to see these temperatures really start moving. Places like the delta looks like some lower 80s for antioch in concord up to santa rosa 81. But across the wider bay, most readings will stay in the 70s for today a little chilly in the coast around 64 for afternoon bay. Coming up a little bit of course well have your 4 zone forecast and looking into that extended as you really start to bake when it comes to around tuesday. Robin back to you i thank well golfers in napa county theyre hitting the greens once again theyre pretty excited to while Napa County Public Health extended its shelter in place order this week with some revisions its now allowing people to golf but the county is making sure that the golfers are doing so safely. Everyone is required to maintain a safe distance from one another and only to only 2 sons are allowed. Thank god almighty im free at last was Getting Better and everybodys you know tired of it. Staying and soon they would like to get out and recreate and this is a very very safe way to recreate. Well some of the other changes to that health order include face coverings which are now required in Public Places, construction is once again allowed and Real Estate Agents are also allowed to hold in person home showings once again and religious services can be held on a drive in our drive for bases. In Central Valley, the golf courses are also open again in San Joaquin County this weekend as county officials there amended the covid19 health order and that allows for some Outdoor Activities such as golf and also doing some landscaping work. There are some restrictions though that includes discontinuing club rentals also eliminating common seating areas and also sanitizing each card after its been used. Golfers must also be practicing socialdistancing face coverings though are not required unless someone has a cough or sneeze us. The weather is making it just feel just perfect to hit the beach in Southern California beaches in la and san diego counties remain close except the goals in Los Angeles County that includes all public beaches peers beach parking lots and beach Access Points as well. But its a different picture in Orange County get a look at that as people flocked to Newport Beachs on saturday, soaking up the sun and warm weather. Ventura county also opened up most of its beaches and parking lots, but the peers remain closed out of towners are discouraged from visiting and social distancing remains in fact a son despite what you see there. People living in San Franciscos Mission District they can get free coronavirus testing. The city partnered with ucsf are free testing after the mission reported the highest number of covid19 cases in the city. So here are the 4 testing finds that you can go to theres part okay ninos Garfield Park. Leonard Flynn Elementary School and cesar chavez Elementary School you can go to any of those spots. Its to verify of someone had previously been infected and has developed antibodies against the virus. Anyone over the age of 4 is eligible regardless of symptoms you can find a link to register for the coronavirus testing on our website kron 4 dot com. Well to the east bay now tomorrow theres going to be a drivethru testing site thats going to open up in Pleasanton Stanford health care theyll be running the site at the Alameda County fairground so monday through friday from 09 00am to 05 00pm those are the hours the site is for People Living in Pleasanton Livermore and dublin you dont need an appointment you do not have to have a doctors order to get tested. But you will have to show at least one of the coronavirus related symptoms so keep that in mind to access the testing site all you have to do is enter through the fairgrounds kate 12 and thats located just off a valley avenue. And new this morning, nba players will soon be allowed to return to Team Practice facilities in some states. It all starts on friday and players can work out individually at their Team Practice sites only if the local governments to not have a stay at home order prohibiting them from practicing so looks like the warriors still have to deal with that, so they wont be allowed to practice other teams that will not be allowed in teams cannot organize in person workouts the nba says its working on alternative arrangements for players who live in places where stay at home orders are still in effect. Now it doesnt necessarily mean that nba games will be back anytime soon. Commissioner adam silver said in the past that the league would not make a decision about restarting the season until sometime next month. And the fda says theres no need to wipe down your groceries or your takeout containers, Scientists Say that even though studies show the virus can live on some surfaces for 2 or 3 days that theres no evidence that the virus is being transmitted on food or food packaging. Scientists say instead its best to wash your hands after you handle or unpack the groceries. Another scientist says if youre still concerned that one thing you can do is that the groceries that dont need to be refrigerated sit for a day or so before you then unpack them. Well an effort to help people in the community, the San Francisco, sheriffs deputies and recruits, they went out there and they were handing out hundreds of mass saturday, more than 300 excuse me 750 face masks were given a Crocker Amazon. Lake merced said they were out at ocean beach alamo square. They even went to dolores park so a special thank you to the sheriffs density of that ice off yet. Well still ahead tony bennett invite, San Francisco and the world to a sing along and coming up after the break that famous song of course that became a message of hope and support for everyone here in the bay area. And were taking a live look outside sunny conditions there at the richmond sandra fell bridge very light traffic as it should be w to you. There are gold and so at a little a yeah that is a 12 yearold by the name of car think along with his mom belting out Tony Bennetts i left my heart in San Francisco. So those on the front line can do their part. And when this is over, we will all, continue, to thrive. Welcome back for the first time doctors at ucsf used a new type of plasma transfusion to treat critically ill coronavirus patients and they did it using donor antibodies from a patient who successfully recovered from covid19. Kron fours noelle bellow reports theres a spectrum. Of symptoms and the population, so spectrum of probability of whether or not youre going to develop. The good on a body doctor, peter chan, hong with ucsf says treating Infectious Disease patients with plasma using donor antibodies isnt a new concept. I mean fuse it into people who want to say and who have developed these antibodies or get fighters yet. He says having this treatment as an option is another reason more testing is needed across the country again i wish we had more testing so then we would know who would potentially be eligible. And i think at the scene the beginning were going to try get the system up and running noelle bellow kron 4 news. Poison sensors all around the country are reporting an uptick in calls following the president s. Comments on thursday about ingesting disinfectant as a possible treatment for coronavirus President Trump has since walked back on his word saying that he was just making a sarcastic comment. What a local medical professor says that this is not something to joke about. You inject it injecting it is far worse because the bloodstream becomes a highway to take this toxic material over your body when you just said is a local effect which is destroying the mucosa in that particular area. Well a number of states have reported an increase in calls to Poison Control Centers, the Public Health director in illinois says that people have been treated for gargling with bleach to kill germs and using detergent as a sign its fronts its unbelievable the Poison Control Center in maryland was swamped with at least 100 calls about consuming a disinfectant. Well saturday, the president retweeted a post from the center for Disease Control that said quote household cleaners and disinfectants can cause Health Problems when not used properly. The white house has not announced what the next briefing will be. A beautiful spring weather brought out thousands of people to bay area parks on saturday officials in San Francisco are making sure that people were still steyn 6 feet apart during the shelterinplace orders take a look at what it looked like at the marina green on saturday as alert volunteers were going around the green giving some masks out to people who didnt have any theyre also making sure that people were keeping at least 6 feet apart. The temptation to lay out and catch some rays drew plenty to Lafayette Park as well. The classroom was a bit concerning for some people there. Its a little bit of a bummer to me to see all these people come together. Would call that socialdistance ish more people would just follow the rules including wearing the mask and large you can tell that people just by looking at the groups theyre trying to do what they can to follow the rules. Well as apd hasnt said anything about citing or arresting people whove all violates shelterinplace orders, San Francisco mayor london breed has warned that the shelterinplace may extend platt past may 3rd. President trump is hinting that he might extend the 60 day hold on green cards for foreign workers. The president issued the original order to quote protect american jobs during the outbreak. Analysts predict the number of green cards issued every year will drop from 1 million to 300,000 if these changes stamped. Asking thousands of its employees to voluntarily return to work. The irs says it needs more workers on site to perform what it calls essential functions that includes opening mail and processing paper tax returns. Now this would give taxpayers or refunds were quickly. They says that it will follow socialdistancing guidelines and require mascot also get personal protective gear for the workers. Well in National News now even after approving an additional billion in aid for Small Businesses hospitals and testing the u. S. Economy continues to crash as a result of the pandemic state and local governments say that theyre still waiting for help states are losing huge amounts of tax revenue which they need to pay for police and fire and other essential services but Republican SenateMajority Leader Mitch Mcconnell says that Congress Needs to be cautious when thinking about offering more federal aid. Its absolutely clear that more help is going to be needed with unemployment. Insurance head in the town also take a load. Well democrats are currently pushing for more funding for the post office and for expanding. Broadband and rural areas so americans can have access to telemedicine and telling learning and also if a second wave of covid19 cases arrives in the fall. Well its been 3 weeks now since the cdc urged all americans to wear masks in public, but only a handful of states have actually made it mandatory doctor sanjay gupta explains whats mask work bass and why. Then there are the disposable cloth masks which you can buy in a store and online. They are made for surgery or for hospitals but are also widely used. But now with the cloth we barely see anything its haitians come out in the form of the gas and the wearing of masks therefore could be even if theyre not high grade a way to contain a range of that lydia reba is a professor at mit who studies the physics behind how diseases spread through coughing, sneezing and breathing news which had hans momentum and then help these drops reach distances of up to 8 meters 26 feet call so second in line in terms of their momentum and that you can basically been dropped to 16 to 19 feet in the next generations and 3rd in line and bring drops further to the source around 6 . And the doctor and said if everyone would wear a mask it would have a significant effect on reducing the risk of covid19 transmission. And now lets get a peek of your sunday morning forecast for checking back in with dave to see how the station thing up good morning dave. Well good morning, robin everybody we have sunshine peering through some of the fog and it looks like thats going to this story into this afternoon as temperatures climb into the 70s. Heres a breakdown we expect mid 70s that that dont forget there will be some winds particularly after we get past 3 oclock. Look at your forecast coming up in just a bit. Mrs. Walker. Michael vasquez come over here. Ive heard such good things about you, your company. Well, i wouldnt have done any of it without you. Without this place. This is for you. Michael, you didnt have to. And, were going to need some help with the rest. Youve worked so hard to achieve so much. Perhaps its time to partner with someone who knows you and your business well enough to understand what your wealth is really for. Good morning. Were back on kron 4 news weekend. One thing that we want to talk about now is social isolation. Among older adults who were very serious concern before the coronavirus pandemic well now the health risks of loneliness from being sheltered in place are really even causing a greater Public Health for a senior population. We want to get more on this from our Health Expert care noah who is here to talk about how people are finding ways to connect. And karen this is really hit our senior population very hard not only physically because of the coronavirus but emotionally and socially as well. Yes, it and this is one area that im very passionate about you know we took a problem that already exist it and made it worse. Its its really sad to see all these facilities and the programs that once kept the elderly in the seniors, engaged and now no longer available. So what a lot of these organizations have done is gone to digital or something online now y m c a exercise programs things like this. But that also brings up a whole series of problems for seniors to doesnt. Absolutely because what points word. Were thinking to 50 million americans are over the age of 60. Are 65 and then sell that one 3rd of them. Dude im not comfortable with Digital Technology so that leaves out of the whole group half of them, you know they they they dont know how to set up these devices and and some dont even have the broadband connection. Right you know i i think about my dad whos in his late 80s and does not have a smartphone weve tried to get him one doesnt want it. Im trying to get them online sometimes and hes doing it grudgingly but its a its a sha its a very steep learning curve. It is and they need someone to guide them, but youre not allowed to be with them so that makes it that makes it very difficult to teach them. I have people that would love to be in my zeal classes, but theyre not comfortable with the technology we want to make some clarity on definitions here theres a difference between loneliness and isolation right. Bright eyes isolation is when you dont have social contacts year youre alone where the lra has loneliness not necessary alone you could still be surrounded by other people but you dont feel like forced to stay home. And theres more of a disconnect with the outside world. Right right in. You know that its its a really double edged sword. You know youre trying to protect the very group that is most vulnerable but youre also creating another layer of problems on top of that right right. What about the fact that so many people are isolated now is that a risk factor for covid19. Ah yes actually it is because the fact that isolation it already put you at a higher risk for Heart Disease and stroke. 60 increase in dementia if you the brain needs that social stimulation it needs be social interaction, yeah, and so its very its not surprising that 50 also have a higher risk of dementia and when theyre isolated. Also also i was going i was going to ask you how how we work around these options now what were some things that we can do. Its its interesting theres something said are some people have really take mobilize an and come up with some solutions here in the bay area we have the friendship line at all if youre part of that they know that that is a hotline for people that are 60 and over. Its a crisis line, but they also have whats called out warm line and this is for non emergency emotional support calls and they actually go out they reach out to some individuals that are lonely so you know they found that if have just a 5 minute conversation with the an older adult yeah that theyll feel more connected. You know the shift from feeling lonely to feeling more connected in just that ive minute. Its amazing. Its amazing what a little bit of time a little bit of a connection even 5 minutes out of your day can make such a difference to someone else in our community, i know that late last week Governor Newsom of took a look at this issue and he came up with a new campaign not only to deliver food to seniors, but urging all californians to check in with a phone call a text. Maybe even safely checking in in person. And what a difference thats going to make. Right what they did the meals on wheels hour in atlanta and they actually instead of just dropping their food up in front of the door. They actually knocking on the door and until the person answers and then they they get 6 feet up a way that they have a 5 minute conversation they know at the time because that may be the only son social interaction that that person has in the whole day or that week. Yeah, i think one way to look at this as well as for people who are having to deal with social isolation at whatever age group. They still have a facetime zoom a number of other ways to but as we mentioned before seniors may not be up to speed on this tie all the g so just imagine not even having that outlet. Oh yeah and maybe maybe a phone is the only outlet they have right can the outside world just to wrap up there are some other programs youre going to talk about meals on wheels for instance, meals on wheels you know if maybe all the communities that have that program take that time to have those conversations also some of the librarys actually reach out to their pay patrons and and call them not check on how theyre doing in and just having that 5 minute conversation, yeah, im karen and just to wrap things up to it only takes 5 minutes and it can make a world of difference, thank you so much he where welk but by you to you all right robin. All right, thank you. Checking in on your forecast now after karl, the fog clears out looks like its going to be another Beautiful Day around the bay area i think yesterday was like my first time in a long time, but i turned on my air conditioner because it was just very warm and toasty so yeah, its going to be really nice day look at the shot have that blanket of fog.
