I wouldnt call the commute light, i would call it moderate. We will go to the photo of one of our units driving on 680 southbound. This is one of our crews approaching the sonoma grade. Traffic is moderate with a lot of people. On the left we have the carpool lane but for the most part the traffic will be okay. This is a map of where this is. You can see the traffic is moving along relatively well write about here is where the crew is headed south. Lets look at highway 24 westbound. It is busy and 680 is recovering. We had a couple crashes, one of them near north maine main street but that one is gone now. 28 minutes is not a bad time for 7 00 in the morning. The 28 minute drive the average speed is 48 miles per hour. We have about a 10 or 15 minute delay. We are following breaking news out of washington. President trumps former security adviser Michael Flynn is expected to plead guilty this morning to making false statements to the fbi about conversations he had with Russian Ambassadors. In 30 minutes Michael Flynn will be in court for a plea hearing. Robert mueller has charged flynn with willfully and knowingly making false statements to the fbi. A Statement Released this morning indicates flynn has reached a plea deal and is cooperating with investigators looking at possible collusion between the russian government and members of the trump president ial campaign. We will continue to watch this and we will bring you the developments. Reaction after a San Francisco jury found Jose Ines Garcia zarate not guilty. This was for the shooting death of kate steinle. The jury reached their conclusion yesterday afternoon. Steinle was shot and killed in San Francisco in 2015. Garcia zarate was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. It is likely he will be granted time served and could be released early. This jury verdict should be respected. They heard the evidence, they deliberated as a group, they heard read back testimony and looked at the physical evidence and then they rendered a verdict to the best of their ability. The verdict today is not what we were hoping for but it is unequivocal that both sides gave it their all. The defense argued the killing was an accident and the bullet ricocheted off of the concrete pier before hitting steinle. His next court date will be december 14. That is when the sentencing will likely be set. In the steinle family response to the verdict kates father told the San Francisco chronicle we are shocked, saddened and shocked. There is no other way to say it. Justice was rendered but not served. The Deputy Director of ice is responding. He has said it is unconscionable that politicians across the country continue to endanger the lives of americans with sanctuary policies while ignoring the harm inflicted on their constituents. Following the conclusion of this case ice will work to take custody of Jose Ines Garcia zarate and remove him from the country. We are live at a memorial that was set up overnight where kate steinle was shot and killed. The verdict has been criticized from coast to coast including President Trump. Christien kafton is at pier 14 with more on the public backlash over the verdict. Reporter the verdict is drawing an emotional response. Jeff sessions has blasted the sanctuary city policy and has said the decision to protect criminal aliens led to the preventable and heartbreaking death of kate steinle. The president has also weighed in via twitter this morning about the verdict. He has said the jury was not told the killer was a seventime felon. The Chuck Schumer nancy pelosi democrats will pay a big price in the 2018 and 2020 elections. The president is also renewing his call for a border wall between the us and mexico. Crews are clearing the areas where 5000 homes were destroyed in the north bay wildfires. In coffey park in santa rosa crews with heavy equipment are working seven days a week to take out debris from warehouse is used to be. There is a backup at the county landfill where trucks are having to wait to drop off their loads. By all accounts the cleanup is going well. Not only just the removal of the debris off the private property but off the streets and out of storm drains. The cleanup in coffey park is expected to take until january. Researchers from south korea used brain imaging to study the minds of 19 teenage boys with smart phone addiction. This is a look at interstate 880 with northbound traffic moving along pretty well into downtown oakland. 880 southbound is slow after 92 and it is staying slow into fremont. We had our crew on 680 and they have not found any slow traffic on 680 into the south bay. At some point you will hit slow traffic on 280. Looking good up to the west valley or highway 17. We are looking at the commute in san jose that looks okay in downtown but further near the Silicon Valley actually, the west valley we can see this slow traffic at 280 on san jose. This is 280 approaching Stevens Creek. You can see that traffic will be slow just approaching the 17 interchange and it will stay this way going into the west valley. As you can see through here so lets give yourself extra time getting up there. 101 and 85 are little bit slow. We also have slow traffic on southbound 101 headed down to the 92 interchange. There has been slowing on the dunbarton and san mateo bridge. This is a live look at 80 westbound, this is to marin county. Southbound 101 is slow as you get to the Golden Gate Bridge traffic looks good. Driving to the bay bridge toll plaza it is backed up for 15 to 20 minutes. Lets get back to the desk. By the time you get through this area just passed 280 things clear up. The traffic is slow for that stretch between Stevens Creek and then it will be good after that. If you are driving on the peninsula at 101 through san mateo it is slow and it is also slow in palo alto. San mateo bridge traffic is not bad. Traffic is moving along pretty well and 880 northbound has not filled in at all. The Postal Service Inspection Service reports a rise in thefts from Postal Service trucks in san jose. The latest was last week. Someone broke into the back of a us postal delivery truck on julian street in the middle of the day. The exact amount of mail that was stolen is being investigated but the Inspection Service sent out 150 letters to people downtown whose mail may have been affected. They are being warned to check for financial fraud. We are asking people, if you are expecting something or if you see strange activity contact us. There have been 15 breakins to postal trucks in san jose this year. That compares to five last year. Piedmont police of that new surveillance will help them find three men who conducted a violent Home Invasion robbery. The video shows the men outside of a home on oakland avenue october 10. You can see them here. The men saw the surveillance camera and then cut the power off from an unlocked electrical box. The men ransacked the home assaulted two people and escaped with money jewelry and other valuables. I think the calculated effort leads us to believe maybe they were looking for some specific target home. This could have fit that criteria. The two assaulted suffered minor injuries. If you recognize these men, or have any information please call piedmont police. Former quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been selected to receive the Sports Illustrated mohammed ali legacy award. The award goes to an athlete who uses sports as a platform to change the world. They have said kaepernick was chosen for his efforts to draw attention to Police Brutality and social injustice by kneeling during the National Anthem. In a twitter post Sports Illustrated set it is a rare person who gives up what he loves in exchange for what he believes. Kaepernick will accept the honor during an awards ceremony on tuesday. We had a little developed in the north bay and a little bit of patchy dense fog. Currently both santa rosa and napa airports report good visibility but you can see the darker gray on highway 101 as you get closer to 37. That is indicating some patchy fog. Just a heads up to be prepared, you could have good visibility but it could leave in an instant. Meanwhile temperatures are just as cold as yesterday just a bit above freezing in santa rosa where we are 35. Mid 40s over oakland with upper 40s in San Francisco and san jose 45. The inner east bay shows 30s with 38 in alamo and danville through san ramon. 40 degrees for antioch and 41 in lafayette. Into the afternoon temperatures are mild like yesterday. Here is a look at santa rosa as we get there 10 00 finally into the 50s and for your lunch hour near 60 and then lower 60s for the second half of the day. Afternoon highs in antioch in the mid 60s and in the south bay 66 with 64 in San Francisco. Temperatures pullback into the weekend with a possibility of a few sprinkles. Currently traffic is moving along okay if youre driving on the east shore freeway, you have 27 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze which is pretty good. You can tell traffic is looking good around the corner. When you get to the bay bridge toll plaza you will be waiting 10 to 15 minutes. 880 is slowing down which is good because it has not been slowed until now. Southbound is slow on 880 from union city to fremont and the south bay commute has patches of slow traffic here and there. Lets get back to the desk. The Justice Department is considering bringing federal charges against Jose Ines Garcia zarate after he was found not guilty for the shooting death of kate steinle. The department is looking into new charges that could include felony reentry after deportation or a violation of supervised release. Steinle was shot and killed on pier 14 in 2015. He was acquitted of murder but Garcia Zarate was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm which could carry three years in prison. It is likely he will be granted time served. This verdict should be respected. The jury heard the evidence. They deliberated as a group. They heard read back testimony and looked at the physical evidence and they rendered their verdict. The verdict was not one that we were hoping for but it is unequivocal that both sides gave it their all. The defense argues the killing was an accident and the bullet ricocheted on the concrete pier before hitting steinle. The next court date is set for december 14. The steinle family response, kates father told the chronicle we are shocked, saddened and shocked. There is no other way to coin it. Justice was rendered but not served. The Deputy Director of ice is responding. He has said it is unconscionable that politicians across the country continue to endanger the lives of americans with sanctuary policies while ignoring the harm inflicted. Following this conclusion ice will work to take custody of Garcia Zarate. The verdict has been criticized from coast to coast including a series of tweets from President Trump. Michael flynn the former National Security advisor has just pleaded guilty to making false statements to the fbi about conversations he had with the Russian Ambassador. Flynn arrived 30 minutes ago at the us District Court house in dc. Robert mueller charged flynn with willfully and knowingly make false statements to the fbi. Michael flynn admitted to lying about his conversations with the Russian Ambassador to the United States during the transition period before President Trumps inauguration. Flynn agreed to a plea deal with mueller. We will follow these developments. The New York Times reports President Trump pressured several us senators to end the investigation into russias interference in the 2016 election. Over the summer the president told senator richard were her he hopes the investigation would be wrapped up quickly. There are continued reports that President Trump is planning to replace Rex Tillerson and put mike pompeo in his place. What changes have you noticed . It is a mixed bag. In San Francisco we are the model city in the good parts of the epidemic. We have brought it down to two 200 new infections per year. We have the best care and research with the best scientists in the city. That is why the memorial is here because of our response. On the flipside we have a lot of work to do around women and people of color particularly transgender individuals. There are communities that have not yet been equitable or have not been advocated for enough. The biggest challenge now is where we have the disparity, to rectify that.
