Unilateral move diane spine stein released the tringted of her committees interview with Glenn Simpson the cofounder of fusion gps. The firm that was behind the antitrump dossier. Republican Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley saying while they will continue to Work Together is he disappointed and that the release could hurt their investigation Going Forward. Guys, its did create some problems. For instance, when you are getting people to voluntarily come to you. It make a lot of people a lot more reserve about whether they want to cooperate. And i think particularly in regard to Jared Kushner, that it could maybe effect moving forward with that. Very high profile person, an as an example but it will continue to move forward. Jared kushner off the hook then . No, no. Not at all. Sandra president weighing in tweeting the fact that sneaky Dianne Feinstein who has on numerous are you occasions stated that collusion between trumprussia has not been found would release testimony in such an underhanded and possibly illegal way totally without authorization is a disgrace. Chris stirewalt. Your thoughts on all of that . Well,. Sandra you guys were motioning over here there were eyeballs. Chris did i like that in the tweet trump called for democratic primary of Dianne Feinstein because you know California Democrats snap right to it whenever the president calls. The committees work in this matter is substantially done. This is the tremor at the end of what they did. And we start out and say the senate judiciary, Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein as the ranking members on that committee did a great job by the way so did senate intel in handling. This they were above board. They were collegial. They didnt get freaky. They will didnt get weird. They didnt get excessively freaky or leaky. And these are good things. Something that the folks on the house could say good night about. This is, at the end, Chuck Grassley earlier went ahead and recommended for prosecution Christopher Steele. That was a slap at Dianne Feinstein and democrats. And what he recommended Christopher Steele for prosecution for was saying Something Different to the fbi. He was is lying to one of us. Either you or us. You should prosecute him. This is my interpretation this is her saying okay, you acted this way. So now im going to act this way. Sandra thats not very professional. This is what happens when you take a highly sensitive political matter such as this and put it in the hands of politicians. Even good patriotic seasoned ones like Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein have a hard time keeping their sabers sheathed. White house is defending Dianne Feinstein, watch. What they have tried to do is to create this sense that there is some collusion between the russians and Christopher Steele. When you look at Glenn Simpson testimony, its clear that that could not be farther from the truth. And rather than just argue the point, i think senator feinstein did the smart thing which is just throw the whole transcript out there and let people see it. Sandra marie harf in the background saying umhuh. Martha im agreeing. On this couch we said we need more answers. We need more information. Here is 300plus page transcript of some of these answers that we have been looking for. So i think its in the publics interest to see this. We can talk about the politics behind releasing it and thats fine. But, we have been looking for some of these answers. And it has been used in a very partisan way. And i do think that fusion has the opportunity to defend themselves. They called on this to be released. So there was nothing untoward about it in terms of getting people to cooperate because the witness, in fact, wanted it to be out there. Katie they say they want it released but wont testify in public hearing. They refuse to do that. Dianne feinstein now has given Glenn Simpson an out. He can say my trips have been published. Chris my testimony speaks for itself. Katie no reason to testify in front of the American People and make a decision. In terms of the answers we got from this transcript. There arent many. Glenn simpson refused to answer whether he was in touch with the fbi about this dossier using information. He refused to say whether he was employing russian agents, people in russia to help gather this information. And he also refused to answer the question of have you ever guaranteed a client that your research will prompt an fbi investigation of the person that you were trying to take down . So we actually dont have a lot of answers when it comes to the 300 pages that we got. And i think it opens the door to even more questioning of democrats, the funding behind it, the Democratic National committee, the Hillary Clinton campaign and who exactly Christopher Steele is and who he was working with. Harris its an excellent question. Shame we didnt get some of those answers. For the other side argument is yeah this has been released for the pert negligent issues we still want you to come and testify publicly. You know, i didnt lose the timing on this, did i, chris . Because the president was just calling on Dianne Feinstein to ask her about immigration. I mean, that was epic that meeting that we saw yesterday. That was Something Different. That was amazing seeing how those two sides, republicans and democrats, those invited to the white house, hand picked list came and sat with the president and talked. He you know, at one point made sure that Dianne Feinstein had the floor at that table. Im calling on you. Come forth and she said well, i dont know if you would listen to this. Well listen. Put it out there. And thin. This i know things dont happen simultaneously but unfortunate, i would say. Sandra as far as the president is concerned he is still as did he n most tweet calling this the single greatest witchhunt in american history. He says it continues. There was no collusion. Everybody including the dems knows there was no collusion. And, yet, on and on it goes. Russia and the world is laughing at the stupidity they are witnessing. Republicans should finally take control. Chris . Chris they pressed that one guy to death with stones in salem. I think that guy would say that was the biggest witchhunt. Sandra literally. Chris literally. Katie they didnt actually do those things, unfortunately. Chris yes, they did. In this case, look, what they do in Congress Matters less and less and less. We are down to recriminations, we are down to scoring partisan points. We are down to trying to get the last word in. No, i said, no i said. No, no, i said that i released the last release. So the word out at that point thats fine its congress we dont take them too seriously. What matters now, whose got the ball . Mueller. Chris mueller has got the ball. Everything now depends on when is trump going to sit down and talk to mueller. What is the nature of that interview going to be like. How much is going to be written . How much is going to be written in person . Who else is going to be called. Most important thing Chuck Grassley said Going Forward is Jared Kushner off the hook he said not by a long shot. Sandra another wrinkle in dossier story President Trumps personal lawyer Michael Cohen filed a defamation suit over it is he suing fusion gps, glen simpson and buzzfeed he tweeted this enough is enough of the fake russian dossier. Just filed a defamation suit against Buzzfeed News for publishing the liefilled document. Ion potus and me. Katie . Katie the document is defamatory however i think this lawsuit is going nowhere. The president of the United States has been a public figure. He has been a public figure essentially his entire life. His attorney, Michael Cohen is also a public figure. And the bar is very, very high for libel and defamation suits. So they can win maybe on the p. R. Here. They can make a statement about the intimidation and dont publish this stuff because we will run you into court and rack up your legal fees in terms of actually winning the lawsuit, i dont think its going to go very far. Im also not sure that team trump wants to expose the full dossier to legal vetting. Because there are parts of it that potentially are true. Some of the most salacious stuff is probably not or possibly not but if they want a judge to bible to go through every part of the dossier as part of a discovery process, i actually dont think. Chris they could have hundred sealed it . Maybe they are confident there is nothing there. Maria i think that is a false confidence. There are smart people in this field who believe at least some of it is true. Harris interesting what you say. When they look at the story they have not definitively drawn the line between the president and his attorney. This is the attorneys lawsuit he has been a public figure so to speak but not like a household name. Chris you have the most famous clip of the 016 election. When polls . All of them. The white house is responding to a federal judges decision to temporarily block the president s push to end obama era protections for Illegal Immigrants who came to the United States as children. The socalled dreamers. The white house is calling this move by this judge outrageous. The judges ruling coming after the president led a nearly hourlong bipartisan meeting on camera on immigration and we got to see all of it. Were here to advance bipartisan Immigration Reform that serves the needs of the American Families, workers, and taxpayers. It should be a bill of love. And we can do that. It also has to be a bill to secure our border. In order to secure it, we need a bill. Has to be a bill to end chain migration. The others cancel the lottery program. They call it visa lottery. I really do believe democrat, republican, people sitting around this table want to get something done in great faith. I think we are on our way to do it. Harris president said we had enough to chew on for two weeks and invited those senators out. Chris coons believes the president may be able to Push Congress to a deal. So what i thought we saw yesterday in that meeting, those individuals and in the conversation was the president really trying to be and sound reasonable on a compromise around the dreamers on daca. If the president chooses to make this not just oneday photo op. But to show real leadership here he actually could move us forward by getting a resolution to the status of dreamers and new investment in Border Security. Harris all right, here is an update group of house conservatives led by goodlat and paul ryan is set to release their own immigration proposal today it will reportedly call for aggressive border enforcement measures. The White House Press pool right now in the cabinet room with the president where he is holding his first Cabinet Meeting of 2018. So its likely that we will hear directly from the president on this issue of judge william federal judge district judge in San Francisco last night ruling to block the rescission of the daca program by the president. Clearly he is not happy about it tweeting this morning, quote it just shows everyone how broken and unfair our court system is when the Opposing Side of the cases, such as daca always runs to the 9th circuit and almost always wins before being reversed by higher courts. The judge is a district judge but he falls within the jurisdiction of the ninth circuit of appeals and its likely why a lawsuit was filed in that particular jurisdiction. But what the president said was actually quite tame compared to what the press secretary, Sarah Huckabee sanders said about it this morning where she said quote we find this decision to be outrageous, especially in light of the president s successful bipartisan meeting with house and Senate Members at the white house on the same day and issue this magnitude must go through the normal legislative process. But in his ruling, and the judge may have been trying to tweak the president a little bit here. The judge actually quoted a treat in which the president voiced his support for daca where the president wrote quote does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military . Really . Well, the judge basically said no, we dont want to do that. So im going to block your ruling. So now all of all of this aside including the white house ire Kirstjen Nielsen said this morning she doesnt think this court action is going to effect in any way the efforts here at the white house and in congress to reach a bipartisan agreement to fix the socalled dreamers act. Listen here. We are very disappointed by the decision, but what we heard yesterday at the meeting was were all committed to finding a deal. So a permanent solution is actually to the benefit of all the current Daca Recipients and thats what we are pursue. So what we have heard since that meeting and during that meeting yesterday is that there does seem to be some momentum toward finding some kind of fix here. The question is what will be included in that fix. The president wants to fix daca. He also wants some Border Security measures including a wall and other items and then he also wants an end to chain migration and an end to the visa lottery program. Yesterday when he came out, the House Minority whip steny hoyer said there was unanimity in the room about the dreamers but didnt say anything about Border Security so we will see where this goes. Harris and around and around we go. Thank you. Chris stirewalt, i dont know how big of a deal this is, you have to tell me. January 19th will be here in a heart beat. People in the room thought they needed to get this done before next friday. Chris well, people say that this is a must pass resolution. Never under estimate congress ability to fail. It is always within their power. Harris you mean to get anything done . Look, they are exhausted, they passed legislation. So they are very tired right now. Harris they had all of christmas break. Chris they need time to recoup. The reality is the funding legislation that they need to pass on the 19th to keep the government funding, debt ceiling, military authorization. We have multiple we have cans tied together on a string kicking them down the street. They have to address this on the 19th of january. Now, democrats say they are not voting for it unless daca is resolved. They wont vote for it now, i dont know that thats true. I dont know that thats 100 percent true. They say it i dont know if its true. On the otheon the other side republicans say we are not voting for any daca amnesty unless we have a wall. I dont know if thats true either. We are finding out how much each side is bluffing about this and the appropriate thing is happening. The house is promulgating legislation. The senate is going to promulgate legislation we will see what happens. Hairs haters you listen to that meeting yesterday, the president said, you know, i understand that there are parts of where you would, you know, put a long a fence line and wall that will work and parts which wont. We will take a look at that. It isnt that he probably hasnt known that all along but now we are starting to hear even more detail about that. Katie he has also said that before. Harris not something we havent heard before but now we are going to get a deal. Chris can i extend my remarks. Harris can you reclaim your time. Chris i wish to reclaim my time, madam. The most important thing that happened yesterday in that meeting wasnt any substantive discussion but as senator coons said and others said after 10 days in which the discussion about trump was is he too senile and stupid to be president , people said oh, he seems to have a command of these issues, he is conversant. He is nimble. He is moving around the table. He is engaging people. He is as you said before bringing democrats in, republicans in. He was inhabiting the persona of a transpartisan dealmaker. Maria which is why they did it probably. Chris of course. It worked 55 minutes of him being in command and having command of the issues. Sandra holding him Cabinet Meeting today. But we are told that he talked about just that in this meeting. Talking about how networks covered that meeting. Said he has received notes of congratulations from many people about holding an hour long meeting from various Television Network anchors. He does talk, guys, this is important. Securing borders, the depleted military. Talking about he said the phone call was very good. Nikki haley was brief but not on the call. Welcome to our first Cabinet Meeting of the new year, 2017 was the year of tremendous achievement, monumental achievement, actually, i dont think any administration has ever done, has done what we have done and what we have accomplished in its first year. Which isnt quite finished yet. You never know whats going to happen over the next few days. And country, our people, and for our standing in the world have been very monumental. We confirmed an incredible new Supreme Court justice and more circuit judges in our first year than any administration in the history of our country. And we have many more coming. We set a new record on reducing regulation and all forms of stopping growth and stopping jobs that were crip bling americas economy. Again, the records that we set 221, nobody has ever come close and the amount of regulations that we have cut is a record also in our countrys history as reported in particular the wall street journal did a big story on it before christmas we passed the largest tax cut and reform in american history, including anwr and including the fact that the individual mandate was terminated, which is a tremendously important thing and a very popular thing, i must tell you. People are supposed to pay for the privilege of not having healthcare. That was not good unfortunately the courts didnt cut it but we cut it. So, in addition to the largest tax cut and reform in history. We have one of the great oil sites thats now been approved. They have been trying to approve anwr, i dont know if people know, this for over 40 years. Ronald reagan tried to get it approved for exploration and for drilling. And for 40 years they have been trying to get it approved. That was in the bill. An individual mandate in the bill. Since that tax cut was enacted, more than 1 million workers have already received a tax cut bonus. Something that frankly nobody even thought about. We didnt think about it, nobody thought about it. We just d knew a lot of good things were going to happen. And i must say at t was at the first one and they did it 1,000 per employee. They have hundreds of thousands of employees. And Many Companies followed immediately thereafter. And now they are following, i guess the employees are saying what about us . And millions of employees in this country are getting thousand dollars and more in some cases tax bonuses because of the tax cuts. Hardworking American Families will receive tremendous tax relief. We lowered our tax rates nearly doubled the standard deduction and doubled the Child Tax Credit, which ivanka trump was publishing very, very hard, i will tell you that and so was marco rubio. I will tell you that the Republican Senate we had no democrat support, zero. They didnt want tax cuts. They want tax increases. They want to raise your taxes. They dont want to cut your taxes. But the Child Tax Credit has become very important to the American Family and they are very happy about it. Our historic reductions to the business tax will raise annual Household Income by an average of 4,000. Thats a tremendous number. The amount of money thats going to be brought in 4 trillion because of our tax reform. Will be a number that this country has never seen pour into our country. And thats going to create more jobs and more investment. The stock market is shattering one record after another. Unemployment is at 17year low. And im very proud of this. Africanamerican unemployment reached its lowest level in history. Think of that. On the campaign trail, remember i said and would constantly say what do you have to lose . Meaning what do you have to lose if you vote for trump . And now it was just reported africanamerican unemployment is at its lowest level in history. Im very proud of that. Were also making america safe again. Yesterday we had a bipartisan meeting with house members and senators on Immigration Reform talking about for many many years and brought them together in this room and it was tremendous meeting. Actually it was reported as incredibly good my performance some of them called it a performance, i consider it work but, got great reviews by everybody other than two networks who were phenomenal for about two hours. Then after that they were called by their bosses oh, wait a minute, unfortunately a lot of those anchors sent us letters saying that was one of the greatest meetings they have ever witnessed and they were great for about two hours. They were phenomenal. Then they went a little bit south on it not that big. It was fine. They probably wish they didnt send us those letters of congratulations but it was good. Im sure their ratings were fantastic. They always are which is why i think the media will ultimately support trump in the end. They say if trump doesnt win in three years, they are all out of business. [laughter] you guys will be out of business but the boom holders are still going to be there so thats good. Those are the people i like. We agree to pursue four major areas yesterday of reform, securing our border, including, of course, the wall, which has always been included, never changed. Ending chain migration and addressing the status of the daca population. We want been spoken of for years, and children are now adults in many cases. The numbers are very different, very varying. A lot of peopleay 800,000. Some people say yesterday first time i heard 650. I also heard 3 million. The fact is our country was such a mess nobody even knows what the numbers are but well know what the numbers are. But above all else, any bill we pass must improve jobs, wages, and security for american citizens. The people who elected us, all of us, the people that elected us, we have to cake care o totake care of them. We cant play games with our military, whether we are democrat or whether we are republican. We have to have a strong thats not a point of negotiation, we cant say oh, were going to give you military for your military but you have to give us money for something that frankly is much less important than security. And we have to keep our country strong and our military was badly depleted over the last long period of time, beyond president obama, i will say. Beyond president obama. Our military was very, very badly depleted. I just spoke to president moon, he is very thankful for what we have done. They are having talks with north korea. We will see what happens. He felt that the original that the initial talk was extremely good. Had a lot of good comment, rex was on the phone nikki has been briefed. We had a good conversation. He is thankful for what we have done. It was reported today that we were the ones without our attitude that would have never happened. Who knows where it leads. Hopefully it will lead to success for the world, not just for our country but for the world. And well be seeing over the next number of weeks and months what happens. On a separate front, we are going to take a strong look at our countrys libel laws so that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory, about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts. And if somebody says something thats totally false and knowingly false that the person that has been abused, defamed, libeled will have meaningful recourse. Our current libel laws are a sham. And a disgrace and do not represent American Values or american fairness. So were going to take a strong look at that we want fairness. You cant say things that are false, knowingly false, and be able to mile as money pours into your bank account. We will take a very strong look at that and i think what the American People want to see is fairness finally as we begin the new year i want to thank my cabinet tirelessly. Every day, every hour im on the phone with almost all of them all the time. And we have a lot of exciting things to go. Im just looking at alex huff, what a job you have done with our healthcare. Now, he is secretary of labor. But he is very much involved in healthcare. And i think those rules and regulations will be out around february 1st alex, as i understand it. And this is healthcare through association and associations. And i think that millions and millions and millions of people will be signing up. It will be highly competitive. He has been able to totally get rid of state lines so there will be tremendous competition. And that will be a phase of healthcare that people dont talk about, but i think ultimately you will have more people than you actually had even in obamacare and it is just a segment of what we are doing. I want to tell you i read a lot of those papers last night and it is really great work, brilliant work. I think it is something that people dont talk about but something thats going to be very exciting and very great. It will be great healthcare at a very competitive price. There will be tremendous competition and it will cost the United States absolutely zero. So were very proud of that. Thank you, alex. Sandra president not taking any questions or answering any questions there in the end north korea Russian Investigation what he did talk about there at his first Cabinet Meeting of the new year. He called 2017 a year of tremendous achievement. He talked about setting regulation or records by cutting regulations. He touted tax reform and the effect thats having on the economy and the low Unemployment Rate in this country. He talked about the stock market in shattering records there. Often you hear that from the president. He did use that as an opportunity to tout that yet again. And he referenced back to that meeting yesterday we have been talking about. And he said it was a tremendous meeting. And he received notes of congratulations from various people. He then moved on to Immigration Reform and those libel laws. The president just wrapping up his first Cabinet Meeting of 2018. Harris steve bannon is stepping down from his post as executive chairman of the website breitbart news. The move comes after backlash over remarks adistricted to steve bannon in a new book. Maybe you heard about that. Meanwhile, the Washington Post is reporting bannon told associates he plans on focus creating a political operation in 2018. Is he banking on President Trump needing help from him again in the future. Predicting that Congressional Republicans will eventually dessert the president. Will that happen, chris . Chris it depends on how things go. You know, one of the challenges that steve bannon has, he views the world, he sees the world in these weird, large, historical swoops and sweeps. And he compares himself to one of the courtiers for the house of tutor or compares himself to all of these grandiose things and all of this big stuff. Most of what happens in washington i wish people could understand that this is my fervent prayer for my country. Most of what happens in washington, most of what i cover, most of what we do is incremental and annoying. Most of what happens happens in little meetings and it happens by accident and then a little bill passes and then that doesnt happen and then that confirmation doesnt go through. There are not you do not feel the thundering jets of history reverbiating over the cannons of time. Steve bannon lives in this bizarre row space. Maybe the president needs him. Dont trash talk his children. And dont lose him backtoback senate races in alabama. Theres a good starting place. Harris katie, just looking forward and no disrespect to the democrat on the couch today. Maria i wouldnt that way. Chris good. Harris this is a gap in time. We know after the president ial election democrats have still been trying to gather their message, so on and so forth. This is a time for the party to do what with or without steve bannon. I think its clear that people are backing President Trump over steve bannon. When you lose the breitbart audience. If you go and look at the comments that were left on the website after this blew up in bannons face, its very clear which side people are on. Im not so sure they will go back to bannon as someone who is going to be the leader of the grassroots movement. Harris what does it mean for the party though . I dont know what it means to the party. Bannon was supposed to be a grassroots activist kind of guy. He rode in on the Tea Party Wave of 2010, was heavily involved in the turn joseph of the house of representatives, involved in Tea Party Movements all over the country. I dont know if they are really going to take him back on this. Its going to take someone else to get in there and get that job done. Harris you have got a president now who he doesnt need steve bannon according to katie and chris, so what do you do in the meantime as democrats . Maria we will see in the Republican Party what if any role steve bannon plays in 2018. We have a senate race in arizona that has kelli ward, joe arpaio that has lot of bannon supporters and Trump Supporters playing in that primary space. Will it play a role . Will it matter . You have the dean heller primary that he has played a role in. Will it matter . We dont know the answers to these questions, but donald trump isnt on the ballot this november. And republicans are. And steve bannon attests for his staying power will be if he plays a role and if it matters because so far this year he has a losing streak. Katie who else is going to play a role . Steve bannon is not the only person involved in this movement. Maria we will see. Katie carried republicans to power. There were a lot of other people involved at the Grassroots Level and quite frankly the establishment level. When it comes to the record so far of the losses here, candidates are having to look at Steve Bannons record and say do i want to be another losing queargt on his background. Chris exclamation point. Harris columnist admits is he no fan of the president. Accusing the nancaccusing the mf getting dumber. Copd makes it hard to breathe. So to breathe better, i go with anoro.
