Reporter so theyre making trains longer and running them more often on certain routes. Downtown oakland is a major Housing Market now. A lot of people live here and get on at b. A. R. T. At downtown oakland. Reporter but in places like concord that once had plenty of room, theyre now like sardine cans in the morning. People that get on at concord are not happy that they have more crowding on the platform. And we understand that. But what were trying to do is run as efficiently as possible. Youre stuck withstanding room only on a crowded b. A. R. T. Train. And youre crowded from concord. Thats a long ride for people going all the way from montgomery or in to San Francisco in general. Heres another change. You see that apartment complex across the street . A little while ago that was an empty lot. Were seeing more and more of that in b. A. R. T. Stations all around the bay area as they become hubs for people who want to live here and get to work fast. At least that was the idea until the new schedule change. Back to you, ken. Tough going in the morning. There has been nothing but problems with one of the biggest Construction Projects in the south bay. Santa clara county says this blast at Valley Medical Center is just one of the reasons it decided to fire the contractor. New at 6 00, len ramirez tells us the question tonight is will the hospital expansion ever get done . Reporter its been two weeks since Santa Clara County locked out the contractor from its Hospital Construction site. If work was going slow before, its now ground to a halt. It looks abandoned. Reporter Carlos Rodriguez works across the street and as a neighbor and taxpayer, hes tired of the project dragging on and stalling out. Its unfortunate whoever signed the original contract didnt get it done. Reporter the county fired Turner Construction and is now suing the company for breach of contract. The wing was passed by voters in 2008 and was supposed to open two years ago but its losing 3 million a month by not being open. First of all, its been frustrating. Reporter Valley Medical Center ceo says the stalled project could hurt the hospital for years to come. Its a domino effect. Once this build ing is complete, we can move on to program other parts of the facility. Reporter its pushing back long range plans to expand the emergency room, the regional burn center, and upgrade the maternity wing to single bedrooms. Weve been able to manage the capacity issue and demand on the system but that can only go so far. Patients expect a better experience. Reporter the billboard in front of the construction site had to be painted over. The new billboard reads completion 2016. That will have to be reedited again. Now the most optimistic timeline for construction to be completed here is sometime early 2017. Reporting live in san jose, len ramirez, kpix 5. Turner blames the county for a lot of those delays. Tonight the county is still trying to hire a replacement contractor to restart the project. A suspect is in custody tonight after a double murder at a Mobile Home Park in castro valley. The bodies of a man and woman were discovered at the chetwoodcrest Mobile Home Park about 12 30 this afternoon. Alameda county sheriffs deputies responded to a welfare check and discovered the gruesome scene inside one of the homes. A male in his 30s was also at the scene alive and unharmed. Officials took that suspect in to custody. Neighbors are in disbelief this could happen in their community. Im kind of in shock, yeah. In shock right now. Police are not saying how the suspect knew the victims. An mtv extreme sports star has been killed at lake tahoe during a skydiving accident. Eric roner was performing a stunt with a group of skydivers at squaw valley when something went wrong. He slammed in to a tree and died. The cause of the accident is not known. This is video of him performing another extreme stunt. He was dropped from a hot air balloon with an umbrella to see if he could float down. The umbrella broke and he parachuted to safety. He was married and had two kids. He was 38. San franciscos mayor says a plan to let bicyclists ride through stop signs without stopping wont happen on his watch. To have a rollthrough stop practice thats adopted locally and have as many people that come through our city as we do is to invite potential disaster and certainly minimally confusion. Confusion for walkers, for drivers, and for bicyclists. The board of supervisors is considering an ordinance to allow cyclists to keep going if there is no cross traffic and they can do it safely. But the mayor says if the board approves that plan, he will veto it. When cyclists roll through stop signs, its called an idaho stop. Thats because idaho allows bicyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs if theres no traffic. We wondered how is it going in idaho . We asked natalie hearst, an anchor in boise, if drivers and cyclists in idaho made it work. Weve learned to because in idaho, being an outdoors community, there are foothills where you can do Mountain Biking here in town. We also have lots of commuters who bike to work on a regular basis going 30 miles in on a regular day. I think biggest thing is awareness. Weve learned, even myself as a driver, as you approach an intersection, youve got to look twice for the motorcyclist and the bicycles. Idaho has had this law since 1982. Tonight San Francisco has a plan to spend half a Million Dollars a year on diapers. The city is the first to subsidize diapers for low income families. Families on assistance get around 700 a month and diapers can cost upwards of 100. Human services of San Francisco hopes this new program will help parents and their babies bottom line. It pays a lot. It means i can spend more money on his milk or urgent necessities. The city will expand the program to 1300 families starting november 1st. On the news at 5 00, we reported that San FranciscoReal Estate Agents are seeing less demand for the high Price Properties out there but for how long .
