Investigation now, firefighters on the scene of that warehouse fire that flared up over the east bay. More live pictures now of the scene at stanwell drive near concord avenue. Heavy smoke continues to hang over that area. The fire started about 1 a. M. Quickly it grew to 4 alarms. You see the flames. The building houses a phone company. There are a lot of plastic bags and wires inside the building. The fire was so intense and crews had to stay out of the building because they thought it might collapse. Ntsb investigators say the captain of the asiana flight that crashed at sfo was worried about landing the plane visually. This is information coming out of the hearing going on now in washington, d. But yesterdays hearing was cancelled because of bad weather in washington, d. C. Its going on as we speak. Its expected to last until 8 00 tonight. A lot of witnesses are going to come forward as frank just mentioned. We heard from a captain one of the pilots who landed asiana flight 214 at sfo in july. He said he was very concerned about using a visual approach to land that boeing 777. In fact, it was the first time that he had ever done so in some of the runways automatic Warning Systems were out of service because of construction here at sfo. That has since changed those Warning Systems are back in place. But thats one aspect of this investigation. Later on this afternoon well hear from a San FranciscoFire Department assistant deputy chief about how one of their trucks ran over one of the surviving victims that day. That 16yearold girl died. Four South AfricanNavy Officers are standing guard over the body. One of mandelas grandsons and south africas defense minister led mourners into the viewing area today. The coffin has a glass cover allowing mourners to see the body. The body will lie in state for three days. The body will then be flown to qunu for burial sunday. Our time in San Francisco, the other half of the group will sing at a special service here at city hall. The founding artistic director, kevin fox, calls this a rare humbling honor. This is something that transcends performing. I can help other people who may still be mourning like this, uplift their spirits. The pacific boys choir has special ties to south africa and the civil rights icon. In 2009, the group toured the country and visited mandelas family home. Later today, theres going to be another celebration honoring the antiapartheid leader in oakland. Mayor jean quan and other city and state leaders will gather at Oakland City Hall at noon. [ yelling ] dozens of demonstrators showed up to the meeting yesterday evening. They were demanding justice for 13yearold andy lopez. The teen was shot and killed by a Sonoma County sheriffs Deputy Erick Gelhaus in october. Protestors were angry over his return to work this week. We cant have the Police Investigating the police and the sheriff investigating the sheriff. We need an outside professional Investigation Team to get to the root of the matter. After interrupting the meeting protestors marched to the Sonoma County detention center. There they demanded the release of a fellow demonstrator. Officers say protestors vandalized the facility there. Two people were arrested. Firefighters have come across a lot of plastic bags and wires inside that building. Now, the fire started about 1 00 this morning, quickly grew to four alarms, with huge flames shooting out of the warehouse. He will lie in state for the next three days. Mandelas oldest grandson was on hand to receive the flag draped casket. The family was the first to viewed body followed by a dignitary, then the public. Investigators are looking into what caused an underground gas leak that forced flames to shoot through the pavement in an oakland neighborhood. The bizarre incident began yesterday morning at golf links road and fontaine. The fire burned more than 3 hours. Six homes were evacuated. And people in other nearby homes were ordered to shelter in place. Santa clara county sheriffs deputies shot and killed a man after he attacked them in an upscale town of saratoga. They will be back at it until 8 00 tonight because they are trying to squeeze two days of hearings into one day. Yesterday was canceled because of bad weather in washington, d. C. Now, already this morning, we have heard from a captain an Asiana Airlines captain one of the pilots who landed the plane that day. He said he was very concerned and nervous right before he made the landing. It was his first time landing a boeing 777 here at sfo. And there were some issues here at the airport because the automatic Warning System was out. That is because there was construction going on here. Now, other pilots have been able to make that landing without a problem even without that automatic Warning System. But it apparently made this pilot in particular very nervous. Heres some video from the crash that day. This was back in july at sfo when the plane, according to the original ntsb, came in too low and too slow, ended up crashing into a seawall and catching fire. Three people died more than 150 passengers were injured. A San FranciscoFire Department truck actually killed one of those passengers, a girl who had survived and then was killed by the truck. It was a 16yearold girl. And we are going to hear from a San FranciscoFire Department assistant deputy chief about how that happened a little later on this afternoon.
