Teen shot dead in Newark, police say

A 16-year-old was fatally shot in Newark Sunday morning, police said.
Jarrod Lawson, of Newark, was shot on the 500 block of 15th Avenue, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Additional information about the shooting were not immediately available Sunday afternoon.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities identify woman, 54, fatally struck by vehicle on N.J. street

Authorities on Wednesday identified the woman struck and killed by a minivan in Newark.
Adrian Bradford, 54, was walking in the middle of the street on the 600 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue when she was hit by a Toyota Sienna around 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Bradford, a city resident, died at the scene, officials said.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. No charges have been filed as the investigation continued.

A weekend of rampant shooting violence has spilled over into the workweek, with detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor s Office leading the investigation into a shooting that left a man dead in a section of Newark Monday.
It happened just at the border of the city s Central and West wards around 5:30 p.m.
In the preliminary investigation, police rushed to investigate reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue and South 9th Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the unidentified man suffering bullet wounds at that location, the Essex County prosecutor s Office confirmed with RLS Metro Morning crew.
Man arrested after infant Amber Alert faces robbery, child endangerment charges, cops say

Damion Payne, 27, was arrested after police issued the alert for the baby girl. He also faces a weapons possession charge, East Orange officials said. Additional details about the charges were not immediately available.
Payne and the baby were last seen about 12:45 p.m. on Lindsley Place, according to New Jersey State Police.
The infant was found unhurt about 3:30 p.m. and reunited with her mother, according to East Orange officials.
“Thank you to our officers in the (local police department), New Jersey State Police, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and surrounding law enforcement partners for their swift response and mutual cooperation in locating baby safe and sound and allowing us to reunite her with her mother,” East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi said in an email.
