Tarrant man dies 3 days after being attacked

From The Tribune staff reports TARRANT A Tarrant man who was critically injured in a weekend assault has died, and a homicide investigation is now underway. On Wednesday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 74-year-old Michael Ryan Berry, who was found wounded last Saturday in the 1200 block of Hanover Street in Tarrant. The Tarrant man was transported to UAB Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 16 and according to the coroner’s office, he was pronounced dead at 2:44 p.m. on Tuesday. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777.

Madison man dies in two vehicle crash on US 421

A 35-year-old Madison man died and a 23-year-old Madison man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on US 421 north of Madison Sunday night. Robert Ray Goins was pronounced dead at the scene while Nathaniel T. Farris was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment after the vehicles they were driving collided just south of the entrance to the former Jefferson Proving Grounds shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday. Police and EMTs were dispatched to the crash at 7:08 p.m. Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionists were requested to assist in the investigation due to there being a fatality and a serious bodily injury in the collision.

From The Tribune staff reports FAIRFIELD The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified a woman killed in a crash on Interstate 59/20 on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. Rita Faye Thomas, 37, of Vance, was pronounced dead on the scene. Thomas was the driver of a Kia Soul that lost control on the interstate and struck a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the road. A passenger of the Kia was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the cause of the crash.
