Biden immigration bill, 8-year citizenship path have advocates hopeful, but cautious

Minutes after President Joe Biden's inauguration, Zambian immigrant Mufalo Chitam took a phone call to share her thoughts on the changing of the guard watched by the world. 
"That sense of relief," said Chitam, executive director of the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition. "You just breathe again."
But with relief also comes resolve – the "flip of the coin" from Republican to Democrat does not mean the work will let up. 
As vice president, Biden sought to address the root causes of migration from Central America. At the same time, a record number of formal deportations – about 3.2 million – took place under the Democratic Obama/Biden administration.
