Twice a year, our governments demand that we alter our clocks in the service of a practice that almost certainly serves no useful purpose while simultaneously imposing a myriad of measurable harms. Daylight Saving Time is the ultimate example of a harmful government program that persists only because of apathetic inertia. Below is a re-post of an article published in 2016. Since it first went online, only the Yukon has heard our call and successfully consigned Daylight Saving Time to the dustbin of history; in March, 2020 the territory skipped ahead and has never skipped back. Meanwhile, efforts in B.C. and Alberta are stuck in limbo.
