the president and democrats to move forward in reality? joining me now for a fair and balanced debate. republican consultant and doug showen and fox news contractor, great to see you today. >> hi, jamie. >> jamie: the backward, forwards approach is not new. it's used previously and a lot of people say how long can you be looking backward at the bush administration. if in fact what got us here right now, how effective is this for the president as we look toward mid terms. >> in short this is kind of a real lame strategy. you would have expected so much more from the president that was equated a year ago to being a political rock star. the fact that this is the best he could do for democrats who are in a heap of trouble in mid term in large part due to his policies is a narrative based on how weakened he has become. i think it's almost a tacit admission by the president the best he can offer democrats is to intensify his base. even last november, people don't blame george bush
