nato. with all due respect to the french and british allies showing bravery and courage and foresight, without the united states nato doesn't function and can't work. absolutely we want to work alongside them and we are are pleased that they have taken the position that they have taken in this record. ultimately the united states has capabilities that france and britain do not have particularly militarily and without the capabilities engaged in this endeavor it will be impossible to accomplish the goal of the mission which is prevent genocide and the massacre of civilians. as long as qaddafi is in power that is what we are facing. >> chris: in a sense, isn't it smart to try to fold into nato and to fold into the french taking the lead and for instance we are going to pull out the combat this week, isn't there a good thing, not a bad thing? >> it as good thing we have allies in the endeavor and we should always try to have allies. we had them in afghanistan and in iraq. that is always the ideal scenario but we have to recognize that we have unique
