My first C-suite role was as chief information officer with L Brands. I then moved to the Gap, where I learned to lead, put the right senior people in the right place, and clear the way for them to do their jobs. After the Gap, I took what I thought was my greatest career risk, which turned out to be the biggest transformation, when I joined the C-suite at Zendesk. I learned that at a smaller company, I could have a more meaningful impact. And within my tenure, I helped drive 30 to 40% revenue growth every quarter and grew the organization from about 1,000 employees in 10 offices to nearly 4,000 employees in 18 offices.
