Photo: Stephen Lam, The Chronicle Kathy Wang was well into writing a follow-up to “Family Trust,” her acclaimed 2018 debut novel about a Chinese family in Silicon Valley, when she was driving near her home in Los Altos and was suddenly gripped by a new idea. “What if one of the world’s most powerful executives in tech was a spy?” she said about the plot of her new book, “Impostor Syndrome,” out Tuesday, May 25. That seed of an idea, prompted by news stories about an uptick in corporate espionage among tech startups and venture capital firms, led Wang to ditch her late-stage manuscript two years ago.
